I Finally Did It!

A while back, I wrote a post with a very similar title (that can be found here) about beating the video game Final Fantasy VII after having to make many attempts to do so because of erased saves. Here I am, eight years later, telling you that I finally beat the new version of the game, Final Fantasy VII – Remake (or FF7 Remake, for short)!

I bought the game about a year and a half ago and I started playing it right away. Now, it wasn’t erased/failed saves that made it take that long for me to beat it this time. It was my lack of time. Between work and the things I needed to do at home on a daily basis, there wasn’t always time for me to play video games. And, when I did have time, it was usually only chunks of time that were maybe a half hour to forty-five minutes long. I don’t like playing story-based games with that little time because you can’t advance the story very much. If I knew I only had that short amount of time, I’d usually play games like Madden, where I could get in a game or two in.

I probably wouldn’t even have pushed to finish it except that they just released a remake of the prequel story to this, Crisis Core. Originally, Crisis Core was released as a PSP exclusive, although I heard you could download it via the PlayStation Network on PlayStation 3. I only ever played it on PSP. Crisis Core (the original version anyway) is still one of my favorite games, regardless of platform. I’m hoping the remake does it justice. Of course, the only way I’ll know is to play it. I wanted to finish the FF7 Remake first, though, so I made a little time over the past week to finish it off.

It’s not as satisfying as beating the original Final Fantasy VII game, but it was still something that I’m glad I finished.

Versus: Episode 7

I’d like to welcome everyone to the latest episode of Versus. Last time, I asked you all for suggestions for somebody that Cloud or Sephiroth (from Final Fantasy VII) could go up against. A couple of you had the same idea. You said that Cloud should fight Link (from the Zelda games). Normally, I’m a believer in “giving the people what they want”. This time, however, I won’t be doing it.

When I do these matchups, I try to make them as equal as possible. While both Cloud and Link both come from worlds of sword and sorcery, Cloud’s world also has modern technology. There are cars, helicopters, guns, missiles, and cell phones. If Link somehow ended up in Midgar, he’d probably be overwhelmed by everything going on around him.

Not only that, but I don’t think this would even be a contest. I think Cloud would wipe the floor with him. No offense to Link, but Cloud is way more badass than he is.

So, that left me with still needing to come up with an opponent for Cloud. Then, it came to me as I was watching Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Specifically, it was the final battle between Cloud and Sephiroth that gave me the inspiration. There’s another character out there that fights just like that…. Continue reading
