Hemophilia is a blood disorder that is usually genetically inherited from a parent, except for rare cases in which it is acquired. Hemophilia A is the most common type, and it negatively affects quality of life and often diminishes lifespan as a result of complications. Patients might experience joint bleeding, joint destruction, crippling arthropathy, acute and chronic pain, and other significant manifestations. A growing treatment armamentarium has led to improvements in the quality of life and longer lifespans for many people with hemophilia.
