A quadrille on making mistakes. With thanks to dVerse for the prompt.

Eat fewer crabs
the doctor’s note says
to which I laugh
didn’t you mean ‘carbs’:
and that’s when I see
her soft-shelled cheeks
flare red in crustacean,
so I shift
my own gaze side
to side in apology:
Sorry, I was being
too shellfish

Note

This is a simple, light-hearted poem inspired by the latest dVerse prompt to write a quadrille: a poem consisting of exactly forty-four words, including the one—“crab” in line 1—assigned for this week. Thanks to Merril for the idea!
