Help keep Red Deer’s stories and creativity alive.

Monetary Donations

The Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery (MAG) is more than a building. It is our collective memory, our creative pulse, and our shared voice. The MAG’s exhibitions are not just displays — they are conversations. They invite children to see themselves as creators, newcomers to find connection, and elders to see their legacies honoured. In a world that often feels divided, the MAG creates common ground. Through art, it sparks empathy, ignites dialogue, and gives voice to perspectives that might otherwise go unheard.

As a non-profit organization and registered charity, the Red Deer & District Museum Society operates the Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery as a permanent public institution in service to society.  The MAG relies on earned revenue, including monetary donations, to support the sustainability of operating a museum and art gallery for our community.

Financial contributions underpin the continuity of our Public Programs and help preserve the Collections for future generations to come.

The MAG combines the wonderful elements of a museum with an art gallery to preserve stories, build culture, and spark creativity in Central Alberta. A cash donation to the Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery supports creating community through storytelling, history, and art through the diverse ranges of exhibitions and public programs made accessible to everyone in our community, all year round.

Every year, thousands of children, families, and adults engage with MAG programs — hands-on drop in programs, art making classes, history mysteries, interpretation of the contemporary or sometimes seemingly ordinary, and community collaborations that nurture curiosity and creative confidence. For many young people, a visit to the MAG is their first encounter with the power of art and history to shape how they see the world — and themselves.

Our city is growing, and with that growth comes an urgent need to preserve our heritage and foster creativity that reflects our evolving identity. The MAG stands ready to meet that challenge — but it cannot do so alone. Sustained community and financial support are vital to ensure that Red Deer’s stories continue to be told, that our local creative economy can thrive, and that future generations inherit a place that celebrates who they are.

In times of uncertainty, art and culture are not luxuries — they are lifelines. The MAG works to remind everyone that beauty, history, and human connection matter. Every exhibit, every program, every preserved memory strengthens the social fabric of Central Alberta. To invest in the MAG is to invest in belonging — in understanding where we’ve come from and imagining where we can go together.

Leave a Living Legacy.

Your values. Your community. Your story. Forever.

The Community Foundation of Central Alberta holds and manages two designated funds on behalf of the MAG.  The Red Deer & District Museum Fund‘s annual interest earned supports the MAG’s operation and program offerings.  The Waskasoo Museum Foundation Fund accumulates its interest and is drawn from to support the MAG’s Collections – including fine art acquisition – and the ongoing care of the MAG’s permanent exhibit: Remarkable Red Deer: Stories from the Heart of the Parkland.  These two funds are endowment funds that will be held by the Community Foundation for the MAG in perpetuity.  This means that only the interest from the fund can be spent, not the principal that anchors the endowment. Every dollar donated to our endowment funds stays there forever, contributing to the long-term financial sustainability of the MAG and its Collections.  To find out what the impact of a donation made to the Red Deer & District Museum Fund or the Waskasoo Museum Foundation Fund can be, check out this calculator.

The Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery is not just a place — it is Red Deer’s heart.
Your support keeps that heart beating strong.

Donating to Our Collections

The first step for donating an item to the MAG is to contact the Collections Manager to discuss it. We are always grateful to be offered meaningful objects, but we are strict about what we accept. The MAG is interested in artifacts and works of art that are in good shape, well documented and which help to tell significant stories about people – their cultures, lifestyles and history.

To become part of our collections, at minimum, an artifact must:

  • Be significant and specific to Red Deer and/or Central Alberta.
  • Be unique – it must not duplicate items already living in our collections.
  • Come with rich supporting information that provides context, making it relatable.

If you are looking to donate photographs or documents, please consult with the Red Deer & District Archives first. They are located at 4725 49 Street, Red Deer, Alberta, and can be reached by phone at 403.309.8403.
