Ready Readers

Stories start here

Every child has a story. Research shows that reading to children from an early age has a profound impact on which turns their stories take. At Ready Readers, we connect young children with fun-filled literacy experiences and new books for home to cultivate a love of reading and set children up for success.

Taking literacy everywhere

We provide countless connection points for young children in the St. Louis metro region to joyfully engage with reading. That’s why our comprehensive approach includes the classroom and extends into the homes and neighborhoods within our community.

Storytime Program

Volunteer readers embark on literary adventures, sharing stories and songs with the same classroom week after week.

Read-at-Home Books

Because children need to be surrounded by books to become strong readers, we send 6-8 new, curated books home each year, so children can create their very own libraries.

Neighborhood Reading Captains

Embedded and passionate neighborhood residents share books and resources, host events and create opportunities that strengthen literacy from block to block.

Into the Community

With our Storybook Walks, Block Parties, and Little Free Libraries, children and their families enjoy memorable, literacy-related experiences beyond the classroom walls.

Short stories, lasting impact

Literacy is connected to all aspects of life—academic success, economic opportunities, physical well-being, mental health, and more.

It’s fair to say, reading short stories has a big impact.

And with nearly 90% of brain development happening during the first five years of life, it’s incredibly important for children to develop the necessary skills to be ready to read when the time comes.

Our Difference

I have really enjoyed the selection of books. The stories are so interesting and the students seem to really enjoy them.

The students’ faces lit up when they saw the new books they were getting to take home for their “at home” libraries.

The kids and parents love the books. I have had several parents tell me how cute their kids are reading the book to them. They act the story out the way our reader does.
