martyrdom —

What the Lord giveth shall be
long liveth — or, ‘tried’ at least.
We’re just humans to a degree.
That is the nature of the beast.

We had it all, and we lost it all,
But we are not resentful at all.
We counted and recounted us,
To finally consider ‘all as loss’.

“We are victors” to life’s defeat;
A breath and a beat help equally.
More than that, we bleed freely.
It is ourselves we love the least.
