Sgian Dubh with Bog Oak handle, New Zealand Jade Pommel and Dutch Damascus Blade
Monique commissioned us to create a special Sgian Dubh as a gift for Iain to accompany the kilt pin we previously crafted for him.
The Sgian Dubh was designed to bring together three key elements to reflect Scotland (Iain’s family), the Netherlands (Monique’s family) and New Zealand where they met.
The handle is carved from Culloden Bog Oak with a traditional Military Crosshatch design and has a Sterling Silver inlay of the Torrance Clan Crest which was also used for the kilt pin. Monique was able to give us a small piece of Inanga Pounamu, which is a beautiful New Zealand Jade and our friend Nat at Scottish Gemstones cut and polished this to create the pommel. As Monique is from the Netherlands we asked our friend and gifted blade-smith Chris Grant to use Dutch High-carbon Damascus steel to create the blade as the perfect finishing touch to the Sgian Dubh.
We received an email with some lovely photos and comments after their recent wedding; “The kilt pin and Sgian Dubh had a lot of attention from the family. Especially as we used the latter to cut our wedding cake. They really are the most unique and amazing of gifts I have ever received. Thank you again for your marvelous craftsmanship that helps create wonderful memories.”

Sgian Dubh from a Whisky Barrel for a Cooper’s Wedding
I made this special Sgian Dubh for a cooper I met at Feis Ile, the annual Whisky / Music Festival on the islands of Islay and Jura on the Scottish West Coast.
He was there demonstrating his cooper’s craft of how whisky casks are made. After chatting with him I learned that he was soon to be married so I promised him a Sgian Dubh for his wedding. I got a couple of staves from a cask he’d been working on and made this for him using that wood, a pebble from the beach at Caol Ila Distillery, a Damascus blade and Sterling Silver fittings. Bespoke Titanium Wedding Rings with Celtic Knot
We crafted this bespoke pair of wedding rings specially for Justine and Stephen, working with them to develop their design from Justine’s own hand drawn Celtic knot artwork. The rings are made from a solid bar of Aerospace grade Titanium and each ring was given it’s own look, with Stephen’s ring having a matte finish and Justine’s ring being more highly polished.
The couple kindly emailed us and sent the above photo after their wedding;
“Thank you so much Rab and Tanya for bringing our dream wedding rings to life! You took our design and made works of art from it that we will treasure forever!
We have loved the whole process, especially getting to meet you and discuss our rings and see examples of your work.
Getting our rings made by you is a decision we will never regret, we’re so glad we went for it as they are going to bring us joy every day for the rest of our lives.
We’ve both been getting so many compliments about our rings and love showing them off!”

A Lewis Wedding
We’re just back (and slowly recovering) from a fantastic wedding on the Isle of Lewis.
Charles and Ginny’s ceremony took place at Carloway Broch.
I made them a special wedding cake dirk with their names engraved on the pommel.
