The Quality Council of India (QCI) is a premier autonomous body set up by the Government of India. QCI is responsible for creating a Quality Mindset and envisions to ensure quality across products and services that touch every citizen. As an independent and autonomous body, QCI creates a mechanism for independent third-party assessments of products, services, and processes, coordinating its activities through its constituent boards and divisions. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, serves as the nodal point for QCI.

The Quality Council of India (QCI) works to strengthen the quality ecosystem in Bharat by establishing and operating national accreditation and assessment frameworks. Through its constituent boards, QCI accredits certification bodies, healthcare organisations, laboratories, and other institutions to ensure they meet defined standards of competence and reliability. QCI also supports government and industry through quality initiatives, capacity building, and improvement programmes, helping enhance credibility, promote global recognition, and improve the quality of services and systems across sectors

All strategic decisions are taken by the Council which consists of 38 members representing Government, Apex Level Industry Associations, Quality Professional Bodies, Manufacturing Sector Associations, Service Sector Associations and Consumer Organisations. It is headed by the Chairperson. Operations are managed by a Secretariat which is headed by Secretary General.

QCI operations are carried out by its constituent boards namely, National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies (NABCB), National Accreditation Board for Education and Training (NABET), National Accreditation Board for Hospitals Healthcare Providers (NABH), National Board for Quality Promotion (NBQP) and National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL). Through its constituent boards and initiatives, QCI evaluates and accredits organisations, supports government programmes, and builds institutional capacity. Its efforts enhance credibility, ensure reliability of services, and align Indian systems with global quality benchmarks, thereby strengthening trust and improving the overall quality of products and services in India.

Yes, the Quality Council of India supports MSMEs through initiatives such as the ZED (Zero Defect Zero Effect) Certification Scheme under the MSME Sustainable (ZED) Certification Scheme of the Ministry of MSME. Implemented by QCI, the scheme helps MSMEs improve quality, adopt best manufacturing practices, enhance environmental performance, and build global competitiveness through assessment, certification, training, and handholding support.

If requested QCI has no restriction for publication of an article which has been printed in Quality Bharat. However, acknowledgement for the same has to be mentioned very clearly and QCI reserves the right for such publication.

Yes, the Quality Council of India conducts training and capacity building programmes through its constituent boards and initiatives. These include programmes by NABH for healthcare accreditation, NABL for laboratory accreditation, NABCB for certification and inspection bodies, and NABET for environmental and education-related accreditation. QCI also runs learning initiatives such as Gunvatta Gurukul and specialised capacity building workshops, including training on Environmental Impact Assessment and quality management systems, to develop skilled professionals and strengthen quality practices.
