Support early career playwrights who demonstrate extraordinary potential, artistic vision, and a commitment to a two-year professional development residency in Minnesota.

Support early career Black playwrights, playwrights of color, and/or Indigenous playwrights who demonstrate extraordinary potential, artistic vision, and a commitment to a two-year professional development residency in Minnesota.

Supports Minnesota-based Black artists, artists of color, and/or Indigenous artists who are new to playwriting but demonstrate artistic potential and an interest in learning more about the craft, and who will be able to take advantage of the resources that Playwrights’ Center provides.

Recognize and support mid-career playwrights living and working in Minnesota who demonstrate a sustained body of work, commitment to their craft, and distinct artistic vision.

Supports an established playwright from outside of Minnesota who demonstrates a sustained body of work, commitment, and distinct artistic vision. The Recipient of the Residency and Commission will create a new play which will be developed with Playwrights’ Center through a series of workshops and will culminate in a public reading of the play.

recognize theater artists other than playwrights. The intent of the program is to support mid-career artists living and working in Minnesota who demonstrate a sustained level of accomplishment, commitment, and attributes of artistic merit.

support ambitious new work for the stage and the artists who create it. They advance singular work by creating room for experimentation and risk in new play production, help writers achieve the freedom to write plays they fear would otherwise go unproduced, and enable producing organizations to say “yes” to worthy but challenging productions.

is a three-year appointment designed to support a diverse group of playwrights who demonstrate a sustained body of work, commitment to their craft, and distinct artistic vision. The program is available to committed professional playwrights nationally and offers significant resources intended to further a playwright’s career.

Offers fully funded play development workshops for three student playwrights combined with a nine-month mentorship with a professional playwright.

100 theaters around the country who partner with the Center to spend time with playwrights and co-develop new plays, with a keen eye towards production.
