Let People Control AI
We call on the UK government to fund binding Citizens’ Assemblies on AI and implement their decisions.
We all know best what role we want AI to play in our lives. By bringing together juries of ordinary people, informed by experts, to make binding decisions about AI, we can take back control from a handful of American tech companies overshadowing every aspect of our lives.
If the UK government prefers to listen to industrial lobbyists over its own citizens, we will take matters into our own hands and set up our own Citizens’ Assembly on AI.

The problem with AI
AI is already being used in every single aspect of British life. It’s helpful for stuff like spell checks or DIY tips. But a lot of the time, AI erodes what matters to us most, and we don’t get any say in it.
Our jobs
People are already losing jobs or struggling to start their careers because employers think their jobs can be done by AI. But when AI produces videos, images, or text for next to no money, it copies real art and real articles made by real people who weren’t asked permission and who didn’t get paid for their work.
Our Young People
Already, one in four British teenagers uses AI chatbots for mental health support. We have only just watched tech companies wreck the mental health of young people with social media. The same companies are now trying to make children believe that they can safely tell their most private secrets to a chatbot.
Our People
AI is already being used in our Government, our Army, our police, and our courts. But not only do we know that AI discriminates against women and just about any minority group. Countless experts, like Nobel prize winners and the godfather of AI, are worried about what would happen if AI goes rogue after it has become a part of all our most essential infrastructure.
We’re not pulling the plug on AI. We’re pulling the plug on a handful of AI billionaires, like this guy, making decisions for the rest of the world.
Pull The Plug
Pull The Plug was set up by a small bunch of people who were worried about the impact of AI on our industries, our community, and our nature. We think that AI will only be a force for good if ordinary people make it that. We’re no tech experts, but you shouldn’t have to be an expert to get a say in a democracy. We’re bringing together a broad alliance of people and groups in the UK who will create a visible face to the AI movement.
