The local wildlife know we no longer have a cat. I guess they can read the energy.
This morning I've seen a mouse and a rat in close proximity to the house. Never have done before. I knew they were around but up till now they've kept their distance.
Marlowe's mere presence must have acted as a deterrent, because he posed no actual threat to them. He wasn't much of a hunter. Back in the day he'd catch voles and shrews and bring them into the house- alive. Anything bigger was safe. He never took on a rat- and the ones at the farm got used to him. They'd play around the bird feeder right under his nose and he'd just sit and watch them like it was a floor show. |
