What is Influent?
Influent is a fun and immersive language learning video game that gives players the freedom to explore and learn at their own pace. Development of the game began in Japan at the University of Tsukuba’s Entertainment Computing Laboratory under the Monbukagakusho Government Research Scholarship. This resulted in a research paper surrounding the game and its applications being published by the Information Processing Society of Japan (IPSJ). This research paper can be viewed in its entirety here. Further development was made possible thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign and the dedication of the game’s solo developer, Rob Howland.
Unlike most other language learning apps and language learning games, Influent provides players with a rich 3D environment and doesn’t force any specific curriculum or linear path for the player to follow. Every single object in the game is fully interactive and can be selected by the player to learn how that object is called in not just the written language but also the spoken language. Native audio pronunciations were painstakingly recorded for all 500+ Nouns, Adjectives, Verbs, and Synonyms included in each of the 20+ foreign languages available.
See below for a complete and up-to-date list of all the languages currently available for Influent, a language learning video game!
