So, I've tried to duplicate what I did. And I've done pretty well, if I do say so myself. It certainly resembles the original.

This is something I just did and posted to i-t, but I'm posting it here too. Sorry to those of you who will be getting it twice.

Alrighty then. A couple people were interested in learning how to do photo manips, and because that's something I'm pretty decent at, I thought I'd make a tutorial. This is how I do it. There are other sort of techniques, this is just my ideas.

Okay. So y'see, I was kinda in the mood to make a tutorial. Good? Good. So I made an icon, and now here come the tutorial bit. But I'm really nervous. Cuz first of all, this is my first tut ever. And even besides that, very rarely does anybody but my friends see my icons, because I don't really know where to post most of them. So I'm also worried my icon is crap to begin with. But enough of my self-pitying mumbo jumbo, eh?

Alright, this is something I discovered when I was working on icontest type stuff. I was trying to work with a black and white picture, and I wanted to put some colors in it somehow. But, because it was an icontest, I couldn't use any outside pictures. I was allowed to use gradients, though, and I was messing around and came up with something interesting. So I thought I'd divulge my secret.

We're gonna learn how to start with this:

and end with something like this icon:


We're working with PSP8, but I think it should be pretty translatable. I'm not going to get really detailed because I'm lazy, but if there's anything confusing please just ask me about it.

Okay, this is the first thing I've ever done that's even close to a tutorial of any sort. Yay!

Just a really simple trick to help brighten up dull, faded images. For PSP8, I don't know how well it will translate but it doesn't seem like it should be too hard...
