There’s many, many examples of spiritual successors in Black Bolt and White Flare. For example, compare BLK Lilligant to EPO Lilligant. Virizion and Terrakion are almost identical to old prints as well.
Funnily enough, the mobile app “TCG Pocket” has filled in some of the gap here! The developers have been very thorough about releasing cards featuring the different forms of Furfrou, for instance.
An attack with this same name previously appeared on LOR Honchkrow.

Is this the only supporter card that cares whether or not it’s “in play” for a continuous effect? Back before BW supporter cards stayed on the field until the end of turn.
I can’t think of any interactions with supporters for this to even matter, Tropical Tidal Wave can’t hit your supporter. But there probably was design space for interactions had they left the rule in place.
I don’t notice any nothing wrong with the translation of Torrential Pump – nothing sticks out – so my guess is there’s something that’s probably insufficient with Sparkling Crystal’s translation.
The thing is Sparking Crystal’s translation looks okay, too. But I don’t think it is… on the Japanese end, there is a subtle difference between the language the Japanese rulebooks use when discussing what we’d understand as talking about an attack’s “Energy cost” (e.g. a printed WCC to use the attack) as compared to the text on Sparking Crystal, which reads something more like “Energy necessary for the purposes of using the attack”, phrasing inclusive of both cost and the additional requirements as with Torrential Pump. These aren’t literal translations but off the cuff suggestions.
The English translation of Sparking Crystal can look, but it’s talking about an attack’s “cost”, which I think most if not all English players are going to understand as talking about the printed Energy cost, and only the printed Energy cost. So you have something which I’d guess WASN’T intuitive the first time Japanese players read it, but made perfect sense after the nuance in the text of their Sparking Crystal was explained to them, but I don’t know how to explain it in a way that makes sense to English players looking at the text of the Sparking Crystal we got.
Oh, really? Well if that’s the case, then this actually makes a lot of sense. Though, to be honest, I still like the old wording for these types of abilities better… Actually, does anyone know what the direct translation of torrential pump ( https://pkmncards.com/card/wellspring-mask-ogerpon-ex-twilight-masquerade-twm-064/ ) would be? Because it just occurred to me that maybe it’s a bad translation’s fault that torrential pump seems to function so unintuitively (sparking crystal lets you use the effect by shuffling 2 energy)
The Japanese text across the cards is identical. The new English text is a better translation of the source text. Since omitting things from the localized text caused so many of the problems and a lot of English rulings that wouldn’t have needed to exist otherwise, it’s a much better direction to take with translation work.

This ability crops up from time to time! We’ve also seen it on Furious Fists Noivern, Fossil Haunter, Paldea Evolved Skiploom + Jumpluff, Cinccino ex, Whimsicott GX, PGO Ambipom, RCL Dragapult, etc.
Except, for some reason, this card’s wording is unnecessarily long when the wording of Hop’s Dubwool is sufficient. I really don’t like this new, longer wording that pokemon with abilities that activate under specific conditions have started using since Mega Evolution.
And this card is currently unplayably terrible. I really don’t see why people get upset about big numbers when the game itself is so much more than that.
koid
I know there’s some other basic mega evo’s but this one really feels like it should have been a stage 2 with its other two forms.

310 HP on a basic? LMAO, modern Pokemon is a joke, this feels almost like a satire of a card game.
someone
Oh great. A new maximum health for basics in standard.
It’s also 3 prizes, but that ability also stops Dusclops and Dusknoir from being able to hit things. You’d have to get around it with something like flutter mane and boss’s orders.
Funny enough, if you knock this Pokemon out, you’re 50% closer to winning the game. These guys have high HP, but that 3 prize clause is a tradeoff I’m not fond of. I’d also love to see the game hit a hard stop and focus more on single prize Pokemon without rule boxes without it just being GLC format.
I would certainly love it if we could go back to a time when 120 was the max for single prize Pokemon. Being able to use cards from way back when would probably make more people interested in playing too.

What’s this about hoppip?

Very cute

It still counts as being “React Energy.”

Does it not count as reactive energy anymore while this ability is in effect?

Yall do realize its ability only works on itself, right?

G block rotates the same day POR becomes legal for official play. Even outside of Japan this card can’t use superior :(

Black Bolt Crustle is a clear spirit successor to this card. Same ability and attack, just with different stats.

It would’ve been sick in gardevoir ex. The costs unfortunately land it as a permanent benchwarmer and not a pokemon to build around.

True, but it’s quite pointless if you have to discard a lot of energy from your hand to do solid damage.

Another result of such low HP was a combo with a later banned Island Challange Amulet which allowed reducing your opp’s hand to 0 on turn 1
