The Story Behind Remember Laura

Sometimes a story doesn’t begin at a desk.
Sometimes, it begins with a question that won’t let go.

Years ago, while visiting my grandmother, I found myself paging through one of her old scrapbooks. Tucked in the back were two small gray folders—different from everything else.

Inside were two photographs.

One was a young soldier in a World War I uniform.
The other was a grave marker.

I remember asking her, “Who is this?”

She told me a story I never forgot. He was her first husband and he died in WWI. Until that moment I did not know she was married before she married my grandfather. There’s more to the story and you can find it on my blog on my website.

That moment stayed with me for years—long after I left that house, long after the scrapbook was closed.

And eventually… it became Remember Laura.

This is a story about love that refuses to be forgotten.
About time, memory, and the way the past can reach into the present when we least expect it.

If you enjoy stories where history and romance intertwine—and where love is strong enough to bridge generations—this one is for you.

Two free February treats

February always shows up at my home in the Carolinas with a mix of chilly days coupled with reasons to smile. Bright red candy boxes line the store shelves, and people seem quicker to hold doors open this month. Love often looks like everyday kindness—checking in on a neighbor, sending a text to someone who’s had a rough week, or sharing a laugh with a loved one. Those moments matter, and they’re what inspire so many of the stories I write.

To bring a little warmth into your kitchen, here’s an easy treat I’ve been making on repeat:

Raspberry Chocolate Swirl Squares.

Stir together 1 cup of melted chocolate chips, 1/3 cup butter, 1 egg, 1/2 cup sugar, and 1 cup flour.

Pour into an 8×8 pan, then drop spoonfuls of raspberry jam over the top and lightly swirl with a knife. Bake at 350°F for about 20 minutes.

They’re simple, rich without being heavy, and perfect with a cup of tea.

And because this month feels like the right time to share something special, I’m offering my inspirational Valentine romance for free for a limited time. If you enjoy stories filled with hope and second chances, I think you’ll like A Valentine to Cherish.

Also free on Kindle Unlimited.

Free sweet inspirational Valentine romance: A Valentine to Cherish

I’m always so excited to offer my readers a chance to snag these great deals.

This month, A Valentine to Cherish, my sweet inspirational Valentine romance, is FREE for a short time.

All his life, he’s followed a song. Is God showing him it’s time to put down roots?

When Scarlett Evans meets Grammy-nominated Christian singer/songwriter Joseph Slater, their attraction dances like the intricate melodies he plays on his guitar. The way he looks at her—like she’s perfect, just as she is—is a balm to her recently broken heart.

But who is she kidding? Stars like Joseph pick slim, demure, beautiful blondes, not loud, boisterous redheads with I’m-on-my-thousandth-diet curves. Besides, right after a local Valentine’s Day benefit concert, he’ll do what men have done to her all her life—hit the road.

Scarlett-with-two-t’s is the answer to Joseph’s prayer. This exquisite, vivacious woman has reconnected him with his muse. He’s writing new songs for the first time in years, with lyrics that make him ache for something his relentless touring schedule never allowed. A home. Family. Love.

But just as Scarlett’s hesitation starts to melt, she freezes and pulls away. Now he’s praying for the right lyrics to bring her back—and show her that with God’s guidance, they can rewrite their future as duet.

Valentine’s Day is all about love. And God has a special plan for a small-town woman and a road-weary singer.

A New Year’s Blessing

I post this every January because it is so popular.

Happy New Year!

“I’m walking into 2026 with a clear heart and mind.

If you owe me, don’t worry about it. You’re welcome.

If you wronged me, it’s all good. Lesson learned.

If you’re angry with me, you’ve won.

If we aren’t speaking, it’s cool. (I love you and I wish you well.)

If you feel I wronged you, I apologize.

Life is too short for all the anger, grudges, and extra pain. And we, as people, are not perfect.

God bless us all! Here’s to 2026!”

Why I love writing Christmas Romances.

I’ve been thinking about why I love writing Christmas romances.

It’s not about the decorations or the perfect snow (though those are nice). It’s about how this time of year has a way of making us take stock. We look at our lives and wonder if we’re where we’re supposed to be. If we’ve made the right choices. If it’s too late to start over.

There’s something about December that opens us up. Maybe it’s the lights that make everything feel more possible, or the way the year is winding down and, after Christmas, we finally have permission to slow down and breathe. We get reflective. We remember what matters. We let ourselves hope for things we’ve been too practical to want the rest of the year.

That’s when we need stories. Stories that don’t pretend life is simple but believe in second chances and new beginnings. Stories about women who are figuring it out as they go,

Christmas romances remind us that even when life feels complicated, love has a way of showing up when we need it most. They give permission to believe that the best parts of our story might still be unwritten.

For a limited time, I’m giving away A Chocolate-Box Christmas—grab your free copy and give yourself permission to hope for a little magic this season.

Happy reading and Merry Christmas!

Looking for a heartwarming winter read?

While rereading Hawthorne’s The Snow-Image, I kept thinking about the courage behind a single snow angel—made as a prayer.

That idea became A Winter Promise, a faith-centered historical romantasy about a husband and wife holding on to hope when life turns cold.

If you’re looking for a heartfelt winter read, you may enjoy this one.
