So, we're having a bead sale over at the etsy store! Here! All crystal bicones and seed beads are currently going for 20% off.

And as a special treat (because you guys are all super special) I've made a (special) coupon code for just my dA and Facebook watchers: SPECIALFRIENDS10 for 10% storewide, with no minimum purchase.

hm.

In other news, life's been super hectic. Getting married in a month.

:D

Oh, and: Christmas Sales @ Avera / AMV

It's that time of the year again, I guess. For personal update, scroll down, but otherwise, some Sales to announce:

As always, A Myriad Vice goes into sale mode, a little later this year than usual actually. XD

Coupon Code is SEASONALGIFTS2012, for a storewide 15% off. I'd previously had a sale period and didn't actually re-raise my prices, so there are some Awesome bargains right now, notably, the Whimsy Pendants - great stocking stuffers.

Also, it's a good time to pick up the lockets, for those interested. ;)

On the Avera Studio Supplies end, the same Coupon Code: SEASONALGIFTS2012, also a storewide 15% off. I swear it's not because I'm lazy. XD

I've recently put up a Load of cabochons - notably gorgeous, full-faced flash smaller labradorites (although the larger labs are still where it's all at, for me). Seriously, have a look: LABRADORITE!

But tons of other cabs, too - tiger iron, jaspers, azurite, mookaite, black star sapphires, rutilated quartz (clear as water!), and some others. A fair few faceted gems, too, affordable shinies.

------------------------------------------------------------

So, a bit of a personal update. Sorta. I'm working (my ass off) on getting Avera's website up, but once that's good to go, it's going to be Awesome. The store itself will stock higher end gems than the etsy store, a fair few worthy of collections (notably my ammolites, my gorgeous ammolites!) - some of AMV's work, but significantly, the Goddess Collection works will be available there.

Wait, that wasn't very personal, I guess. Er. So, I'm getting married probably in February or March next year? And, ah, I'll be flying off to Toronto in 10 days to be with the fiance for the year's end. Will be back in mid-January, but in any case, should hopefully be able to post something every now and then. Not sure what projects I'll get up to while I'm there.

...ho boy. Helluva year. A Great year. :D

Self-determination and Independence

It's taken a long time to put this into words, but...

I've decided that despite their material hold over me, the fact that they can't (and won't ever try) to understand the things I do and the realities I dream - is not my failing but their lack of ability.

I've realized that this is not their fault, even though they were the cause of Everything. They are nothing if not the product of their environment.

And I've determined that, adversity be damned - my realities are to be Lived, and exist no more in mere shades.

Starting to understand just how insidiously toxic my family members are for me. Yay, psychotherapy.

I think... I might just need out of this house, out of this dependence. Knowing them, I'll have to fight and murder for the right to my independence. It irks me tremendously.

Dayia Fantasy

Mmhm, what the title says. This is how Dayia might dress in Hoethal's fantasies. Both are characters of mine, from my work in progress, a saga I have tentatively named 'Eyrne Cycle'.

--------------------------

"The androgyne's titled name was Nalesa Dayia Arilm. He, with his son Danaril, was the monarch of all Arilm, that incredible tribe of telekinetics. They were the only great tribe who kept their stronghold – their homeworld, even – on the rather dangerous edge of the galaxy. They named it the Pilatiath Fringe; likely a reference to something both glorious and dangerous in their history. They were always at the battlefront, and while they would never say it, they liked it that way. They were proud, strong, and no foe was beyond them."

- an excerpt from "The Disciple's Reach", Book 2 of the Eyrne Cycle.

--------------------------

Yeah, the excerpt doesn't really seem to fit the sculpture, I know. XD Well, it's a fantasy.

Sculpture made of wire frame and air-dry clay, painted with acrylics.

Hair is silky synthetic pale blond.

Clothes are... hoo boy:
- crushed velvet boots with leather lacing
- stretch lace bodice with lace-up back with leather
- lace (MOAR) bandana thing with chiffon veil trimmed with Jet Swarovski crystals
- chiffon coatie thing with lace-lacing and crushed velvet trimming
- organza and black velvet striped skirt with sections of crushed velvet under leather lacing

Phylactery 2011: Birthright

Phylactery 2011: Birthright

Existence does not tolerate Freedom. From the moment we are born we are instinctively shackled to life like the depicted bird drawn to the water (which is perhaps ironic, considering that death and non-existence may be the ultimate idea of freedom), and we are often attracted to all the things that bind and constrict us. Like Power - the trees made of eyes, all-seeing and ever-present, and increasingly immobile. Beauty - flowers, delicate as paper cut-outs, easily destroyed and inevitably lost, but yet, renewable. The Past, and Tradition - like the bones of the dead upon which we feed for our power.

Yes, perhaps we are the bird, rooted to the tree and the 'powers' we accumulate. We can say we are free, but we build our own cages, and, the best ones are the ones we won't resist, anyway.

I'm not saying death is the way out, or that we could ever, as one, give up our hard-earned Power in human society. But I like the idea of a society not bound by the fanatical need to acquire it, and more of it. I don't know if that would be Freedom at all. Perhaps it would be freedom enough?

Pigment ink pens (mostly Pigma MICRON), 005, 03, 05 and 08, on Bristol Vellum 76cm x 56cm.

Named a 'phylactery' because that's what it is. Inked over 16 days.
