I've recently put up a Load of cabochons - notably gorgeous, full-faced flash smaller labradorites (although the larger labs are still where it's all at, for me). Seriously, have a look: LABRADORITE!

So, a bit of a personal update. Sorta. I'm working (my ass off) on getting Avera's website up, but once that's good to go, it's going to be Awesome. The store itself will stock higher end gems than the etsy store, a fair few worthy of collections (notably my ammolites, my gorgeous ammolites!) - some of AMV's work, but significantly, the Goddess Collection works will be available there.

Wait, that wasn't very personal, I guess. Er. So, I'm getting married probably in February or March next year? And, ah, I'll be flying off to Toronto in 10 days to be with the fiance for the year's end. Will be back in mid-January, but in any case, should hopefully be able to post something every now and then. Not sure what projects I'll get up to while I'm there.

...ho boy. Helluva year. A Great year. :D

I've decided that despite their material hold over me, the fact that they can't (and won't ever try) to understand the things I do and the realities I dream - is not my failing but their lack of ability.

I've realized that this is not their fault, even though they were the cause of Everything. They are nothing if not the product of their environment.

And I've determined that, adversity be damned - my realities are to be Lived, and exist no more in mere shades.

Mmhm, what the title says. This is how Dayia might dress in Hoethal's fantasies. Both are characters of mine, from my work in progress, a saga I have tentatively named 'Eyrne Cycle'.

Yeah, the excerpt doesn't really seem to fit the sculpture, I know. XD Well, it's a fantasy.

Sculpture made of wire frame and air-dry clay, painted with acrylics.

Hair is silky synthetic pale blond.

Clothes are... hoo boy:
- crushed velvet boots with leather lacing
- stretch lace bodice with lace-up back with leather
- lace (MOAR) bandana thing with chiffon veil trimmed with Jet Swarovski crystals
- chiffon coatie thing with lace-lacing and crushed velvet trimming
- organza and black velvet striped skirt with sections of crushed velvet under leather lacing

Phylactery 2011: Birthright

Existence does not tolerate Freedom. From the moment we are born we are instinctively shackled to life like the depicted bird drawn to the water (which is perhaps ironic, considering that death and non-existence may be the ultimate idea of freedom), and we are often attracted to all the things that bind and constrict us. Like Power - the trees made of eyes, all-seeing and ever-present, and increasingly immobile. Beauty - flowers, delicate as paper cut-outs, easily destroyed and inevitably lost, but yet, renewable. The Past, and Tradition - like the bones of the dead upon which we feed for our power.

Yes, perhaps we are the bird, rooted to the tree and the 'powers' we accumulate. We can say we are free, but we build our own cages, and, the best ones are the ones we won't resist, anyway.

I'm not saying death is the way out, or that we could ever, as one, give up our hard-earned Power in human society. But I like the idea of a society not bound by the fanatical need to acquire it, and more of it. I don't know if that would be Freedom at all. Perhaps it would be freedom enough?

For me, a new year doesn't necessarily mean new resolutions, ideas, or anything really. But I've quite recently come to desire a new direction in my craft, nonetheless.

This is the first child born of this drive, inspiration if you will - Eshana.

01. Name one thing you would change about yourself.

I have this tendency to get pretty irritable. No, I realize it would also be a good thing to deal with the causes of irritability, but I think greater tolerance would be nice. And I don't mean in the "I'm not actually listening to you" way. I suppose.

02. Name one thing you wouldn't (even under the threat of death and destruction).

Funnily enough, I've come to appreciate that my obsessive tendencies are simply too large a part of me to attempt exorcising. If I were to stop being obsessive one day, I would probably be unrecognizable to me... and I'm quite sure I don't want that.

03. If you could choose to be born as a different person in a different time, who or what sort and where would it be?

Perhaps, a musician (how exciting and different!), a hundred thousand years into the future, in a long-colonized and terraformed Mars (or preferably further).

04. What is the most vivid dream you ever had (at least, of the ones you still remember)?

I can recall several, but this one: I was a "gene-morpher" imprisoned in the bowels of a cruise ship. At some point, I had a visitor, and I and my comrades inexplicably broke free after the visitor left. We hijacked the ship and ran it ashore some forested island.

Then I departed from the company of the other morphers, and swam to Australia, where I met mermaids.

05. If you could own a kanji (like a name that is shared by no one else and everyone who sees it would know it as yours), which would it be?

"Water". For it is I, a tolerant master! You can't live without me, but there's enough leeway in my leash that you'll have a few days to come to your senses if you decide to swear me off.

How excited we were, and eager to begin exploration!
And so we did, head-on with scarce preparation
Our response to dire warning, as one, irascible.
Leaving the new spectral existence was unfavourable
Even discovering our declining population;
But when at last our senses demanded explanation,
We found leaving the planes to be quite impossible.

In suddenly unquiet desperation, a light was seen,
Or found, or created - a flash of blue in the darkness.
Too late for caution, we approached even in our fear,
Only to be engulfed in icy fires - keen,
Apparently, on the interlopers' destruction, completely remorseless.
And in the flame, we remembered all that was dear.
