The Dolphin Waxer

Joe & Ella’s Awesome Fishing Adventure

Lately we have been so busy with things around the house, we haven’t taken the time to do anything fun. Owning a house there is never a day when something doesn’t need to be done. But we decided to set aside a couple of hours on Sunday and have some fun. We packed up the cooler and headed to the lake.  Joe calls it a little worm drowning fun.

We arrived bright and early but, apparently not early enough because someone was already in our favorite spot. We embarked on finding another spot. It was a little treacherous traveling down the banking:  pine cones hiding under pine needles are slippery when stepped on just right. Being careful not to break an ankle, while carrying a chair, fishing box, cooler, and my cell phone was not easy, let me tell ya!

There were some campers, not camper-campers, but people who were tenting. We wondered why people would want to set up a tent on a side hill of dried up pine straw and pine cones. Maybe because it’s free? Maybe because it’s better than setting up a tent in the backyard of the subdivision they live in. Who knows? To each his own I guess, it is not the kind of place we would pitch a tent.

After much trudging around, we finally found the second most perfect fishing spot.  I commenced to getting things set up and situated. We hadn’t been fishing in a long time. I was certain this was going to be the day to catch THE BIG OLE FISH! I was hoping for a BIG OLE BASS! Even had my lucky bass hat on.

“Don’t look now but there’s a guy up there waxing his dolphin,” Joe says to me.

“WHAT?” I wasn’t’ sure I heard him right.

And like a car accident, you cannot drive by without looking, I looked. Not only that, I snapped a picture!

“YOU WHAT?” Joe asked later.

Sure enough there was a dude up there on the hill, having a big ole time with himself. Joe says he was getting back to nature.

In a sense I feel a little weird writing about this, like I’m invading his privacy. But wait a minute, he was in public.  He was in a space out in the open. It’s not like he didn’t have a tent where he could have done it privately. We laughed and joked about it because it was weird, but kind of funny. Like he was showing the lake what he had. You never know what to expect in this day and age. A few minutes later we heard a gunshot in a not so far off distance. That brought us back to the reality of what our world is now. And it kind of makes us realize you can never be too careful.

Our little adventure made us remember why we don’t venture out too far from home much anymore. You always have to be aware of your surroundings. The dolphin waxer was harmless to us, however, you never know what kind of people are out there or what they are going to do. It’s funny but it’s not funny.  People are strange and it’s a crazy world we live in.

Until next time, be careful, stay safe, and always, always be aware of your surroundings.

Finale

TGIF and happy weigh-in day. I have to tell you I was mighty proud of myself when I stepped on the scale this morning. I saw a number I haven’t seen in about six years. I’m still not where I want to be yet. The Levis’ are still in the closet. But every step counts. The hard work and diligence pays off. Continue on your journey. Do not give up.

This brings us to the end of our nine week road to fitness. My goal was to prep myself for the upcoming month. I did more than I hoped. I’m going to take a few days off and get geared up for the next blog challenge. Feel free to continue following at my other site.

Joe and I will not be taking any days off from the road to fitness. We still are going to persevere. We hope you do too. Our next journey will be the adventures in landscaping. Doesn’t that sound fun?

Until next time…keep on keeping on.

Thursday Threshold

Thirsty Thursdays are usually our break day. Joe and I like to have a frosty beverage at our local pub gathering once or twice a month. With the nation in shut down mode, things that used to be normal are things of the past. Just one more reminder to us to take advantage of every moment and every opportunity we have. We don’t know when that is going to be taken away from us.

I was looking at some of my previous posts and I came across this gem when we thought our journey was going to take us over the road. It can be used in all aspects of life, as far as I’m concerned.

AGKLM ~ an acronym meaning: All Good Kids Love Milk.
It is a system designed to help truck drivers focus on their driving, prevent accidents and save lives. In a way it can be used to help us focus on anything that lays before us.

  • Aim high: set your goals high, that way you are always challenged.
  • Get the big picture: Know what the end goal is and what the possibilities are.
  • Keep your eyes moving: Be aware of your surroundings. Know when someone is trying to hold you back or interrupt your ambitions.
  • Leave yourself an out: Don’t beat yourself up if you make a mistake. Put it behind you and start again.
  • Make sure they know you are serious about what you are doing. Sometimes people don’t take us seriously. Make them know you are serious about your objectives.

Friday the 13th

Happy Friday the 13th and we have made it to another day to step up to the scale. In response to the pandemic COVD19 spreading throughout communities, delaying activities, cancelling events, even closing Disney World, the road to fitness will continue. If your road takes you to a gym or fitness center, you may want to consider the great outdoors. There is nothing quite like a breath of fresh air.

Today is weigh in day. Step up and see what you got. Make sure to document it in your healthy fitness journal. Take a peek back to day one. Aren’t you proud of yourself? You should be. We’re proud of you.

This epidemic has people concerned. It’s a real sickness that will effect a lot of people. In all due respect, it’s not something the world has never seen: Ebola, Zika, and H1N1 influenza. It’s an unfortunate plague that the media and social media have exploited. For COVD19, prevention is half the battle: wash your hands, keep yourself healthy, recognize the symptoms and counteract accordingly. Be educated and don’t believe everything you see or hear. Research it on your own. This is a great place to find the truth about COVD19.

I hope everyone stays healthy. That’s a big part of this journey!  Getting fit and making a life style of staying healthy.

Hope you see you next time.

Wood Chucking

How much wood can a woodchuck chuck? Woodchucks don’t really chuck wood, but beavers can fall a tree like nobody’s business. Most people can’t endure a triathlon without extensive training but everyone can do something. Some days the obstacles we have before us seem too overwhelming. Some days seem like there is too much on our plate to clear. We all experience these hurdles. It’s normal. Do not be discouraged.

Develop positive self-statements, such as “I’m getting stronger and better every day.” Okay, my cows don’t believe that every day because they hurt. But it’s true. “Every day in every way, I’m getting better and better.” If you need more affirmation, take a look at the first day you recorded your weight. Think about how much better you feel.

Listen to your body. Take a look in the mirror. Hey, I actually was able to get the Levis over my butt. Still can’t zip them yet, but I can get them on! Wooop – wooop! Stay positive, stay motivated.

Think about other changes you have faced in your life. How did you adjust to them? The strengths you relied on then may help you now. Use them. There are no rules. It’s all about making changes we can integrate into a permanent lifestyle transformation. You are doing great. Keep up the good work.

See ya next time!
