For the next few months, we will be researching the proposition of “Great Yarmouth Exploded Art School”.

This would view the whole of Great Yarmouth as an Art School Campus, and consider how that would impact upon the following research questions:

• What are the most radical and impactful ways that artists can work in Great Yarmouth that enables collaborative, place-responsive learning?
• What does a truly collaborative local faculty look like for our artists, partners and communities?
• What are the most effective processes of monitoring and evaluation that will enable us to pass on our learning to the wider arts ecology and capture its impacts now and in the future?

And more broadly:

• What potentials does this create?
• What and where are the facilities?
• Who is the faculty?
• Who and where is the cohort?
• How and why does it connect with the wider world?
• How can we make it work for Great Yarmouth?
• How can we use it for learning?
• What might any incidental or unintended consequences be?

Thanks to the Freelands Foundation for their support, providing us with the privilege of time and space to reflect upon these questions.

Our next stage of this exploration will be a visit to Supermarket Independent Art Fair in Stockholm, where we will be taking these questions and uncovering new ones through conversation and discussion.

This element has been possible thanks to the invitation from Blackwater Polytechnic to join them as part of the Anglian Embassy, visiting several international art fairs to engage and connect along with Grange Projects and artists from across our region.

We’ll also be promoting other Great Yarmouth based or affiliated artist-led organisations Possible Worlds + Josh Hall, Red Herring Press + Lotte LS, 303 Projects + Alex Costello and showing work artists Jacques Nimki and Theo Gorst.
