SPACES

originalprojects; is a registered artist-led, non-profit educational charity based in Great Yarmouth.

A core focus of our work is Developing Cultural Capacity and Infrastructure — a long-term strategy developed in response to gaps in local arts provision. This approach aims to strengthen the local arts community, build creative networks, and position Great Yarmouth as a serious and vibrant cultural producer.

We do this by:

  • Providing affordable studio space for contemporary artists

  • Offering flexible workspace for community creatives

  • Delivering ongoing professional development

  • Curating a critically-engaged contemporary art programme


We also:

  • Support collaboration and exchange with networks regionally and nationally

  • Host workshops, talks, crits, and research trips

  • Respond dynamically to local needs and sector developments

  • Advocate for arts-led regeneration and inclusive cultural growth

CURRENT STUDIO PROVISION AND LOCATIONS

Market Gates Shopping Centre, Great Yarmouth, NR30 2BG

  • Approx 25 square meters each space
  • Access 7am - 10pm
  • Majority open plan studios
  • Limited natural light
  • WiFi
  • Running water
  • Space sharing/ occasional project space hire can be considered

Notes on access:

The lift and escalator in the building are decommissioned and therefore multiple steps are required to access the studios and toilets which are located across 2 floors (1st floor and basement spaces). There is potential for step-free spaces which can be accessed during the opening hours of the Market Gates Shopping Centre  (Mon - Sat 9 am - 5 pm & Sun 9 am - 4 pm). 

We are unable to accommodate those practicing 'hot' and heavy-duty work on these premises. If you have questions about the suitability of your practice in any of our spaces we are always happy to discuss options and may have suitable premises in the future.

We are unable to accommodate those practicing 'hot' and heavy-duty work on these premises. If you have questions about the suitability of your practice in any of our spaces we are always happy to discuss options and may have suitable premises in the future.

We are always alert to respond to artists' needs and develop our offer accordingly. We are happy to facilitate a site visit to explore options for potential studio holders with access needs. Please email info@originalprojects.co.uk with any queries.

Cost of Studios

  • We can discuss prices with applicants upon receiving their applications.
  • Rental costs include building insurance, rates, maintenance, service charges, water, and electricity. 
  • Different spaces are provided with varying price points as a way to include a mix of artistic practices and abilities. Where appropriate we can offer shared spaces, occasional use/ project spaces, and 'hot' desk space. 
  • (NB PrimeYarc Studio members are expected to make a monthly time contribution towards cleaning and invigilation.) 
Selecting Studio Holders

 

  • We aim to support thriving artist communities through our studio provision. We want to be inclusive however we will prioritise artists who will be using their studios frequently, and have a track history of showing work and/or exhibitions pending and with artworks and practice of a high standard.  
  • originalprojects; reserves the right to remove tenants who do not use their studios regularly or participate in the CPD offers and ethos of community building. 
  • originalprojects; will review these criteria when demand exceeds spaces available.
