Why Everyone Should Learn CPR, AED, First Aid & Stop the Bleed
Every Second Counts—Be the Help Until Help Arrives
Emergencies can happen anytime, anywhere. Whether it’s a cardiac arrest, severe bleeding, or an accident at home, knowing how to respond quickly and effectively can save a life. Learning CPR, how to use an AED, basic First Aid, and bleeding control techniques like Stop the Bleed empowers everyday people to become lifesavers.
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Sudden cardiac arrest is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. CPR can double or triple a victim’s chance of survival when performed immediately. Learning how to provide chest compressions and rescue breaths helps keep blood and oxygen flowing to vital organs until professional medical help arrives.
Why it matters:
-
70% of cardiac arrests happen at home.
-
Bystander CPR is performed in only about 40% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests.
-
You could save the life of a loved one.
Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
An AED is a portable device that delivers a shock to the heart to restore normal rhythm. When used within the first few minutes of cardiac arrest, an AED can significantly increase survival rates.
Why it matters:
-
AEDs are simple to use with voice and visual prompts.
-
Quick access and usage can mean the difference between life and death.
-
Many public places now have AEDs—knowing how to use one is essential.
First Aid
First Aid training teaches how to manage common injuries such as burns, sprains, cuts, broken bones, and more. It also includes how to recognize signs of medical emergencies like strokes, diabetic emergencies, or allergic reactions.
Why it matters:
-
Prevents minor injuries from becoming major.
-
Reduces recovery time and complications.
-
Provides comfort and confidence during emergencies.
Stop the Bleed
Uncontrolled bleeding is a leading cause of preventable death after trauma. The Stop the Bleed program teaches how to recognize life-threatening bleeding and how to take action—whether it’s applying pressure, packing a wound, or using a tourniquet.
Why it matters:
-
A person can bleed to death in under 5 minutes.
-
Anyone can learn bleeding control techniques—no medical background needed.
-
Vital for responding to accidents, natural disasters, and violent events.
