About Oregon Fire & Rescue Department Rescue

The Oregon Fire & Rescue Department (O.F.R.D.) proudly serves the City of Oregon, Ohio, a vibrant community on the shores of Lake Erie, spanning approximately 28.5 square miles of land and about 8 miles of water.

Our service area encompasses nearly 20,000 residents, with a growing population that experiences both resident and visitor demands.  

Call Volume & Community Activity

In 2024, our department responded to nearly 4,000 incidents, reflecting an 11% increase over the previous year. Of those, Emergency Medical Service calls numbered around 3,136, while fire-related responses accounted for 783 incidents, for a total of 3,919 calls in our latest reporting. We take pride in being a responsive and ever‑present safety resource for our community.

Our Team & Organization

Established in 1936, Oregon Fire & Rescue now operates as a combination department staffed by over 50 full‑ and part‑time personnel, including fire officers and support staff.

Our structure is organized into three bureaus:

  • Fire Administration – Led by the Fire Chief, overseeing budgets and planning
  • Fire Prevention Bureau – Visioned by the Assistant Fire Chief, handling inspections, education, plan reviews, and investigations
  • Training Bureau – Directed by the Battalion Chief of Training, responsible for all departmental training and facility oversight
  • Operations – Managed daily by an on‑duty Battalion Chief, overseeing lieutenants and firefighters deployed across our fire stations

Services We Provide

Fire Suppression

Our trained crews respond to residential, commercial, industrial, and vehicle fires, using engines, ladder trucks, and brush units to control and extinguish fires swiftly.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

We deliver advanced life support (ALS) via staffed medic units, providing essential medical response and stabilization before transport to local hospitals.

Water & Ice Rescue

With approximately 8 miles of water and inland waterways, we operate specialized water rescue boats and trained crews to handle incidents on Lake Erie and area ponds.

Fire Prevention & Public Education

Our Fire Prevention Bureau features:

  • Inspections and code enforcement for businesses
  • New Construction plan review
  • Public outreach and education (school visits, community events, Safe Kids programs)
  • Fire investigations and safety planning
  • Smoke alarm programs

Technical Rescue Services

Our department also responds to hazardous materials incidents, confined space rescues, rope rescues, and extrication at accident scenes.

Community Engagement & Growth

As a trusted community partner, we emphasize outreach participating in local events and public safety initiatives.

Station information

Station 41 is located at 1040 S Wynn Rd. Our administrative staff are housed at this location. All front-line apparatus is located here as well, with 24/7 personnel.

Station 42 is located at 1102 S. Wheeling.

Station 43 is located at 4421 Bayshore Rd.
