Sniper. Making conversation, "Four Commandos walk into a bar..."

Demolitions. Annoyed sigh, "Fierfek, this joke again?"

Reassuring, "No. This is a different one."

Eye roll, "How many can you possibly come up with?"

Smile, "You'd be surprised. So, four Commandos..."

Exasperated, "Seriously, shut up with that."

'Aw, come on'-ish "Why? It's a funny joke!"

Matter-of-factly, "No, really, shut up."

New voice, "...Why is it that I have to tell you both to shut up and do your jobs every time we're out here?"

Unison, "Sorry, Sarge."

Sarge, "Besides, that joke is old. Next thing you know, you'll be telling us that pre-war intelligence came from a Magic 8-Ball."

Enthusiastic Sniper, "Of course it did! I gotta write that one down."

Long-suffering Demolitions, "Way to go, Sarge, now we'll never hear the end of it."

Muffled snort.

Silence.

Sarge, "So, four Commandos walk into a bar..."

Head-thunk.

Off-handed, "So? Quilt the sandstone."

Exasperated, "With what? We have nothing so-"

Eye-roll. "Are you the sniper or are you the sniper? Just lay down the fire and the rest'll take care of itself."

Hard stare. "Easy to say, coming from you, Demolitions. You just toss the grenade and hope the bad guys have the decency to fall down."

Mock-hurt. "Oh, your words wound me." Smack upside the helmet. "Just lay down the cover fire, will you? We don't have all day."

Eye-roll. "Sure. Whatever. This doesn't work, I'm blaming you."

New voice, "Can it, you two. Just do your jobs so we can get the hell out of here."

Unison, "You got it, Sarge."

Demolitions, "Hear that? Even the Sarge agrees with me."

Exasperated sigh. "He isn't agreeing with you. He's telling you to shut up."

Stare. "No, he's-"

Hard tone, "I'm telling you both to shut up!"

Silence.

Sniper, "...Right. What am I doing again?"

Sigh. "Quilting the sandstone."

Nod. "Right. ...With what?"

Facepalm.

If one were to say that Clones didn't have a sense of humour, one would not be far off. They were bred to be the best, and the best is what they were. There were no variants for any of the colourful quirks that made regular soldiers so hard to deal with. No truancy, no back-talk, no undue heroics outside of the loyalty between brothers. In short, they were the perfect army. However, just because they didn't have a sense of humour per se, didn't mean they didn't grasp the concept.

This truth is most evident --


"Kriff! It's starting to pulse again! Take cover, take cover!"

"...had no idea you could program it to spew left-over rations!"

"ATIN! WHAT DID YOU DO TO THE HOLOPROJECTOR!"
