What Is SiteSafe Certification? 

SiteSafe Certification is a voluntary program developed by NLCSA to help small construction employers build strong health and safety programs—step by step, year over year. 

Who's It For? 

  • Construction companies with 1–5 workers (Group 1) 
  • Construction companies with 6–19 workers (Group 2) 
  • Must be registered with WorkplaceNL and fall under a construction NIC code 

Duration:
3-Year cycle (with annual renewal requirements after Year 3)

  • No audits or site visits, just submit a couple of training documents and some minimal site documentation 

If you've already completed WorkplaceNL's OHS Committee Level 1 or the NLCSA's Construction Worker Safety Course  — SiteSafe recognizes that! You could be closer to certification than you think.

What's Involved? 

Group 1 – Construction companies with 1–5 workers 

  • Year 1: OHS Committee/Worker Rep training + Construction Worker Safety course 
  • Year 2: Complete two additional safety courses
  • Year 3: Complete two more safety courses + submit some sample documentation
  • Year 4+: Ongoing training & documentation to maintain certification

Group 2 – Construction companies with 6–19 workers 

  • Year 1: OHS Committee/Worker Rep training + Construction Worker Safety course
  • Year 2: Complete two additional safety courses + submit some sample policies  
  • Year 3: Complete two more safety courses + submit some sample documentation
  • Year 4+: Ongoing training & documentation to maintain certification

Common Questions

Is this the same as COR®? 

Nope! SiteSafe Certification is not COR®.  While both programs focus on improving safety, SiteSafe Certification is a simpler, more guided path built for small crews. It doesn't require audits, and it's a great way to build a strong safety foundation—especially if COR® feels like too much right now. 

Who is this program for? 

If you're a construction company with 1 to 19 workers, registered with WorkplaceNL, and fall under a construction-related NIC code, SiteSafe is for you. 

  • Group 1: 1–5 workers

  • Group 2: 6–19 workers
