GEMINI Interferometers Working Principle
The GEMINI Interferometers utilize a Fourier Transform (FT) approach, creating two time-delayed replicas of the input light that interfere at a detector. This interference produces an interferogram, whose FT yelds the light spectrum according to the Wiener-Kintchine theorem.
Unlike amplitude-division interferometers (e.g. Michelson or Mach-Zehnder), that typically suffer from mechanical instabilities and therefore are limited in the infrared spectral range, the GEMINI Interferometers are based on a novel common-path geometry, which guarantees extremely high stability and accuracy in a very compact design. The delay is managed using birefringent crystals.
The GEMINI Interferometers’ advantages include simplicity, compactness, insensitivity to vibrations, making it ideal for steady-state and time-resolved spectroscopy (time resolved fluorescence, transient absorption, Raman spectroscopy, bidimensional spectroscopy, …).
