About

Nightmare Press began in 2018 when Jacob and Jenny Floyd (The Frightening Floyds) decided they no longer wanted to publish the traditional route with their paranormal nonfiction after several unpleasant experiences. So, they opened Anubis Press, which was intended to be primarily their own paranormal nonfiction titles.

After the anthology, Paranormal Encounters, they attracted the attention of some other paranormal authors who decided they wanted to publish with Anubis Press. So, the Frightening Floyds drew up some contracts and signed a few other authors.

At about the same time, Jacob had become disillusioned with certain writing communities as well. Having pitched Night of the Possums to a few agents and publishers, he began to reconsider, seeing the success of Anubis Press. He then declined any offers and withdrew his submissions and he and Jenny opened Nightmare Press.

Jacob was determined to create a press that cultivated a positive environment, focused on the craft of storytelling and writing, in hopes of giving the voices in horror who were kept out of the circles for being more interested in their work than politics and friendships a chance to have their work seen.

Over the next couple of years, both presses grew. Jacob, having been a lifelong reader of various genres, drew up more plans, with Jenny, to open up more imprints for different genres. Wild West Press was born not long after Nightmare Press, and Poet Tree Grove soon followed. Other plans were in place for other imprints covering fantasy, science fiction, literary fiction, and romance.

However, due to many personal issues going on in their lives, Jacob and Jenny had to step away for a couple of years, halting the momentum of both Anubis and Nightmare. The presses went silent from 2021 until 2024.

Once the obstacles were removed, Jacob reopened Nightmare Press, putting out another submission call in January of 2024. This time, he and Jenny had decided to put all genres under Nightmare, since it had the biggest following. Anubis still remains open, but it is represented under the banner of Nightmare Press.

During the submission call, from late January until March 10th, Nightmare Press received close to two hundred submissions. Before the end of 2024, there had been 217 submissions total come to Nightmare Press.

Obviously, there was no way for Jacob to accept and publish all the great works that came through, so he had to be very selective, and it took quite a while to clear them all. But he did, and as of now, there are many releases forthcoming.

Going forward, Nightmare Press’s goal is to raise the standard of indie publishing and small press. Not only with the unique stories and quality of work, but with professionalism and inclusivity. Nightmare Press is a publisher who selects its authors based on merit and nothing else. We want to give everyone an equal chance to be considered.

So many projects are set for the future, and Nightmare Press’s revival has received great feedback. We are proud to present an exemplary brand with diverse stories spanning many genres. We do this for the love of the craft and the respect of authors who work diligently to put forth their best work and care about their skills as an author. And we thank all who have submitted to us and continued to support us. We hope everyone enjoys the ride!
