Sierra College Child Development Center
On the Nevada County Campus
The mission of the Child Development Center (CDC) is to provide an exemplary learning environment for the children of students, staff, and community members. The CDC also provides a demonstration laboratory setting for enrolled Sierra College students, while collaborating with community agencies and is a valuable resource to provide an exemplary early childhood education model.
Partnership Preschool – TKM Campus
The mission of Partnership Preschool is to provide a full inclusion preschool program that serves both general education students alongside special education students in a high-quality preschool setting.
Toddler Program
The Toddler Program enrolls children ages 18-36 months. The hours are M, T, Th, F from 8:30 am – 3:30 pm and Wed from 8:30 – 12:30 pm, year-round. The teacher-child ratio is 1:4. Enrollment is free to income-eligible families with a need for childcare (i.e. employment, college coursework, searching for employment or housing.)
Preschool Program
The Preschool program enrolls children 3-5 years old. The hours are M, T, Th, F from 8:30 am – 3:30 pm and Wed from 8:30 – 12:30 pm, year-round. The teacher-child ratio is 1:8. Enrollment is free to income-eligible families.

The Child Development Center is administered by a collaborative partnership including the Nevada County Superintendent of Schools Office, Sierra Nevada Children’s Services (SNCS), Sierra College, and the California State Preschool Program.

First 5 Nevada County
Research shows that a child’s brain develops most dramatically in the first five years and what parents and caregivers do during these years to support their child’s growth will have a meaningful impact throughout life. Based on this research, California voters passed Proposition 10 in 1998, adding a 50 cents-per-pack tax on cigarettes to support programs for expectant parents and children ages 0 to 5. First 5 Nevada County distributes approximately $700,000 a year in Prop. 10 revenues to programs and services that meet local needs.

Local Planning Council for Child Care Development
The Local Planning Council for Childcare Development for Nevada County (“LPC”) promotes quality early care and education services through community assessment, county-wide partnerships and advocacy to meet the needs of children, families, and early care and school age educators.
The LPC:
OPERATES the Quality Counts California (QCC) program, a statewide effort to raise the quality of early learning and care systems and provide coaching, professional development activities and grants to support a continuum of settings where children learn, including licensed child care providers, informal caregivers and TK/K programs.
DIRECTS the Preschool Development Grant (PDG) to strengthen transitions and aligned learning from early childhood to early elementary grades so that young children will have a smoother and more successful experience in kindergarten and across the early elementary grades.
COLLABORATES with partner agencies and key stakeholders to meet local child care needs, identify emerging issues, develop strategies, and implement solutions for staff retention and high-quality child care and education services.
MOBILIZES public and private resources to support early care educators and Transitional Kindergarten teachers in advancing their early childhood education and professional
