Doing a rec list for modern Supernatural 8tracks mixes. These are kind of all over the place but the main theme is that it's more modern music, not classic rock and not overtly southern gothic oriented.

This playlist is just really fun to listen to, disregarding the subjects of the mix. There's some truly weird stuff on here, including the first Jonas Brothers song I've ever heard. It's fun to listen to though, and long so its good for cleaning or writing or walking around and listen to.

Another fun mix, a lot of indie music (I guess?) on here and it's shorter than the first mix, better for listening to for an hour or so between other things. It's a dark mix in content, though not all of the songs have a dark feel.

This mix is a hot mess when it comes to genre. There's classic rock, indie, folk rock, some punky stuff, etc etc. It's a lot of fun and I really enjoy that the focus of the mix overcomes genre divisions. Also, it has When the Levee Breaks by Led Zep on it which is pretty much a selling point for me at any time.

This is a short, dark mix for S8 Dean and I feel like it's pretty fitting in tone. It's a mix of classic and modern rock and is pretty much all old favourites. Good for driving music.

One last dark mix with a lot of new songs on it. I love the dark tonality of this mix, even including the U2 song. I also thought Ramblin' Man was used to ultimate effect being put in the middle of all these other songs. It's a great mix for Dean and I really enjoyed it.

Doing another 8tracks playlist rec list. This one is Supernatural oriented with Southern Gothic music. I've been really enjoying going through these and I haven't even listened to half the playlists on 8tracks yet but these are good.

This is a really good mix, pretty much all Southern Gothic music, I especially like that there are a couple tracks by Johnny Cash and Emmylou Harris. book'em-spacemonkey is a great mixer and I have listened to and really dig most of her mixes. If only one of these mixes gets clicked on from this whole list I would say this should be it.

This is another, shorter playlist, with a bunch of the really popular songs for Southern Gothic mixes on it. It seems requisite that at least one Johnny Cash song will be on the list, and most of them also feature Blood On My Name by The Brother's Bright. Mixes like this have led me to discover so much good new music.

This list was published in 2013. Given that we didn't find out about Dean becoming a demon until May of 2014, I'd say this was some pretty awesome foresight. It's a dark mix, lots of great songs, including Jen Titus's cover of O Death, which was first played on Two Minutes to Midnight, way back in Season 5.

Another super dark mix for demon!Dean. It's a great mix, with a lot of music not featured on the other playlists I'm reccing today. It's also a little harder, in my opinion, than the other mixes.

The last rec for this list today. A couple of these songs I'd never heard before I listened to this mix, which is pretty unusual for me. I really like the blues tone of Death Come Creepin'. This mix has a little more variety than most of the others, a couple of songs that are definitely not in the Southern Gothic genre, but I still thought it fit in well with this rec list.

Doing one of my reading recs (it's actually a music rec) here because Tumblr's formatting is frustrating me to no end and LJ is where I learned to HTML so it's still the best platform for me to work with.

This is going to get x-posted on my fandom tumblr where I usually keep my fandom blogging and rec lists, etc.

So when I’m reading or writing fic I like to listen to music. (Also while I’m working, driving, sleeping, breathing.) These are a few of the classic rock mixes found on 8tracks. I listened to a whole bunch but tried to pic the best of the lot, the ones with songs inspired by the series, not just heard on it, and with good recordings.

I'm putting the tracklists under the cut because some listeners don't want to know the tracklist and also because they make this post really really long.

Rebel With a Cause - Thistle-and-kneesocks

This is a long one, a couple hours worth of music. It's got a few songs from the show interspersed between a bunch of songs that aren't on the show but are of the same era/genre. There are a couple tracks that are live or not that great quality but overall it's an inspired list. I especially like the inclusion of Social Distortion because it absolutely is something I feel like Dean would love but has never been featured on the show and is a band that is often forgotten when people think about classic rock.

This list is shorter and is a slightly more even mix of songs featured on the show and songs not featured on the show. It's a good mix, one I would definitely love to hear overlayed by the sound of a big engine going fast over warm country highways.

Another slightly shorter list, tho with a whole different bunch of songs. There is always some overlap with playlists of a single genre but this one is pretty original. Also, major plus points for being a classic rock Supernatural playlist that doesn't include Carry On Wayward Son. I mean, I love that song but it seems like every playlist maker in the fandom puts it on their mix.
