The Nelson Waldorf School provides a detailed, richly artistic curriculum that responds to and enhances the child’s developmental phases, from early childhood through middle school. On a daily basis children are making and doing, creating beauty, and working with their hands: painting, drawing, woodworking, and knitting. Music is integrated throughout the day through song and the playing of musical instruments.
Waldorf Education aims to develop well-rounded children who are knowledgeable about the world and human history and culture, who have many varied practical and artistic abilities, who feel a deep reverence for the natural world, and who can act with initiative and in freedom in the face of life’s challenges.
The Nelson Waldorf School received one of the best school rankings in Nelson, and is ranked within the top 10% of schools in British Columbia.
Social Inclusion
The Social Inclusion Approach offers teachers resources that support our students with social conflict situations. The Code of Compassion, created by the students themselves, is found in our classrooms and hallways and reflects a school-wide dedication to upholding a climate of trust that is conducive to learning.
Our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Social Justice (DEISJ) Committee continues to review all aspects of our organization from curriculum to policy, and identify areas where we can create an even more welcoming, safe, and accessible environment. We look forward to continuing this great work into the new school year and beyond!
