Frequently Asked Questions

What is the class size?

At Nelson Waldorf School, a typical classroom has between 14 and 22 students, with maximum capacity at 26.

Can my child transfer to the Nelson Waldorf School?

Yes. Enrolment is open for all classes. We frequently welcome students in later grades who have not attended Early Years programming. We provide additional tutoring in mathematics, cursive writing, and recorder lessons to support students who have not benefited from our Early education.

What does NWS enrolment cost?

Enrolment fee information can be found on the Tuition page.

Does Waldorf have a no-media policy?

In the Early Years programs, curriculum relies on rich storytelling and creative exploration to deliver lessons. Therefore, it is important students are able to exercise their imagination and creative thinking to fully experience the curriculum. Waldorf educators believe that early exposure to media can be detrimental to a child’s ability to explore their own imagination and maintain a sense of wonder for their surroundings.

We also understand that it is impossible for most families to avoid screens entirely. We believe families can achieve a healthy balance of using technology when necessary and advantageous.

In Middle School, responsible media use is integrated into the curriculum.

Are Waldorf Schools religious?

Nelson Waldorf School, and Waldorf education in general, is not affiliated with any particular church or religion. Rather, there is a belief that there is a spiritual dimension to life, which is explored through world religions and cultures, a reverence for the natural world, and through festivals and celebrations.
