WHO ARE WE?

NEDSA AU PAIR South Africa, together with NEDSA AU PAIR Netherlands, is part of an organization that has been sending au pairs to the Netherlands since the early nineties. NEDSA is managed by Joyce Del Prado in the Netherlands and Annelies Gibbs in South Africa. Joyce Del Prado is the mother of 3 children, and together with her husband, Xander, they have been a host family for South African au pairs for several years. Our many years of experience make it possible for us to make your experience worry-free and unforgettable.

;

WHAT ARE YOUR COSTS?

All documentation is at the cost of the au pair. New legislation in the Netherlands limits the au pair’s registration costs to 34 euros. Your passport costs approximately R700. Your full birth certificate costs approximately R80. Joyce makes the flight ticket bookings. You are responsible for R8000 of your flight ticket. The host family pays the rest. The return date must be changed once more, and the cost of this is borne/ paid or due by the au pair or their parents.

Today, I sit here with a Heineken in hand and say “Cheers”:

To the Weekend-free ov-chipkaart that allowed me to travel kilometers between stations of unknown places in an unknown country.

To waiting for the Friday evening clock to strike half-past six so that I could start my adventure (for free).

To the 3€ bottle of South African red wine that made me feel a little closer to South Africa.

To the Heineken beer that sometimes made me forget the week’s struggles.

To the Duke who welcomed us with open arms and sometimes served as our living room.

To the parks, yes, the parks that welcomed our madness, tiredness, and togetherness.

To my bike that carried me kilometers and also to the one that is “lost.”

To the cargo bike that is meant for more than just children.

To every walk that laid kilometers of footprints across Europe.

To all the nights that turned into mornings.

To every sunrise and sunset.

To the Dutch music that provided endless entertainment and occasionally a good life lesson: “Live, as if it’s your last day. Live, as if tomorrow doesn’t exist. Live, as if it’s never really over. And live, take everything you can.”

To the stroopwafels, fries, apple pie, poffertjes, oliebollen, cheese, and bitterballen. Oh, the bitterballen!

To the hot chocolate with whipped cream that got us through the winters without asking questions.

To the “snow”!

To the people! Those I met along the way and those who shared this incredible journey with me.

To the strangers who became heart people.

To every “doei” that ended another fantastic night, adventure, or just a coffee date.

To every “Are you babysitting tonight?”.

To the 14:30 alarm with the song “Darlin” by Frankie Miller that reminded me to pick up the kids from school.

To every mission to admire the beauty of the Netherlands.

To the day-long (literally) bus rides that carried us across the borders of Europe.

To the countries I saw and experienced: Netherlands, Belgium, France, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Finland, Russia, Estonia, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, and the Czech Republic.

To the negative bank balance I often achieved.

To the life of a “babysitter”!

To the people at home who had to encourage and support me, as well as the hours-long conversations over the phone to make home feel a little closer. And especially the occasional package!

To Leiden! For a better city, I could not have asked. You were an absolute feast!

To your floating dance floors, to your October 3rd, to so much more because words cannot describe it, but a song can: “La la la Leiden, la la la Leiden, City where I never want to leave.”

To the place that was my home, what a privilege!

And lastly, to you, the Netherlands, who challenged me, made me live, and gave me one fantastic, challenging, and especially “fun” year full of incredible memories.
