NTPA is excited to announce the launch of the NTPA Summit (formerly known as the Tests and the Rest Summit) which is FREE for all NTPA members. If you have never attended one of these amazing training events, do not miss out! Why do we call this event a Summit? Conferences that last all day and revolve around lots of lectures have their place, particularly when colleagues can concentrate in one location. But for remote learning purposes, we have reimagined the standard conference as a focused online summit rich with opportunities for interaction and collaboration:

PRESENTATION (11:00 am -12:00 pm ET): One presentation by a relevant expert followed by moderated Q&A and discussion.
OPEN DISCUSSION (12:00 pm -12:30 pm EST): Everyone will have the opportunity to answer questions and contribute to shared expertise and best practices.

TOPIC: The Hard Conversations: Boundaries, Plateaus, and Professional Judgment in Test Prep

Test prep professionals regularly face moments that require more than content expertise or strategy. What do you say when a student’s score stops improving? How do you respond when a parent pushes for another retake that you believe won’t help? When is it time to release a client, or address concerns with a tutor on your team?

These situations are common across the industry, but they are rarely discussed openly.

In this 90-minute discussion, four experienced test prep professionals will explore the most difficult conversations that arise in our work and how they approach them. Through a candid, moderated conversation and live audience Q&A, panelists will discuss real scenarios such as:

• Recognizing when a student has reached a likely score ceiling

• Advising families to stop or pause test prep

• Managing parent expectations around timelines and outcomes

• Setting boundaries around scope and availability

• Addressing performance concerns with tutors

• Letting go of misaligned clients

Rather than offering one “right” answer, the goal of this session is to examine the judgment calls that define professional practice in test prep. Attendees will hear how experienced educators think through these moments, communicate difficult decisions, and balance student outcomes, family relationships, and business realities.

This session is designed to be highly interactive, with time reserved for audience questions and discussion of situations participants have encountered in their own practices.

The Leadership Development Program at NTPA aims to identify the next generation's leaders and provide them with the training and guidance to help them become effective contributors within the organization. If you aspire to one day serve on the NTPA Board of Directors, seek to further the efficacy of a committee you are already on, or just want to be more active in the NTPA and don't know where to begin, this group—run by three emeritus board members—is for you. All members who want to get involved are invited to participate, and that goes double for committee heads and future applicants to the Board.

This Affinity Group is for tutors and educators who work with students preparing for entrance exams like the ISEE, SSAT, HSPT, and other K–12 admissions tests. It’s a space to share strategies, discuss trends in independent school admissions, troubleshoot tricky cases, and build community with others doing this specialized work.

This Affinity Group is solely for individuals working in a non-owner, administrative or operational role within their organization. Anyone who fits within that is welcome to come ask questions, share experiences and engage with others who are in similar capacities.

Our group is not specific not any particular AP exam, so anyone who tutors any AP subject is welcome to attend.
