About the MEPA Program
This Marine Environmental Protection & Awareness program is about the maritime sector, shipping, ports, and resiliency.
This is a interactive, multi-faceted environmental educational program that supports and promotes MARPOL compliance by seafarers and port leadership including maritime industry-related staff across all employee levels for the Guam Region. This program is designed in partnership with ProSea Marine Education to educate, inspire, motivate and empower the participant to protect the marine environment, to comply with all regulations and to be proactive in using best practices. It also underscores the valuable role played by the maritime industry as important to global society both on land and at sea.
It discusses a variety of subjects related to resilient shipping and MARPOL regulations. This course invites the maritime sector and you, as a maritime professional, to get involved.

Full Program Breakdown
E-Learnings
Five (5) individual, 25-minute, internet-based modules. Topics include:
- Resilient Shipping & MARPOL
- Marine Environment
- Liquid Waste
- Solid Waste
- Energy & the Changing Climate
Webinars
Participants will address the background of regulations that are not part of e-learnings. Topics include; chemicals (Annex II & III), air pollution (Annex VI ) and environmental conventions.

- Invasive Species
- Ship Recycling
In-Person Workshop
Local, on-site workshop to discuss sustainability challenges, solutions, and roles and responsibilities of seafarers, maritime industry staff and leadership, regulators, and community members. A certificate of completion will be awarded to participants.

- Location: Guam
Train the Trainer
Training will be offered to the community for several onsite individuals interested and available to continue the program in Guam. Participants will use the program materials and resources to engage with seafarers and shoreside personnel. A stipend may be available to trainers.
This multi-faceted environmental educational program was developed by NAMEPA in partnership with ProSea Marine Education and made possible with funding from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.

Each 25-minute, internet-based module is designed to be completed independently. To begin, click on the Start Module button.
