This course invites the maritime sector and you, as a maritime professional, to get involved by discussing subjects related to sustainable shipping and MARPOL regulations. This program underscores the valuable role played by the maritime industry as important to global society both on land and at sea.

Broken down into 5 E-learning modules, participants explore sustainable shipping and the importance of the marine environment by outlining how liquid waste, solid waste, energy and climate change impact the marine environment.

NAMEPA has developed practical resources to support mariners and shoreside personnel in understanding and implementing MARPOL requirements in their daily operations. The MARPOL & You Guide and accompanying webinar series were created to translate complex regulatory language into clear, operationally relevant guidance for those working across the maritime industry.

These resources explain not only what the regulations require, but also why they exist, providing important context about the operational, safety, and environmental considerations that underpin international maritime standards. The materials highlight common compliance challenges, clarify key MARPOL provisions, and provide real-world examples that help crews and operational staff better connect regulatory expectations with onboard practice.

By focusing on practical application, operational awareness, and human factors, the guide and webinars aim to strengthen compliance by ensuring mariners understand both the intent and implementation of MARPOL requirements. The resources are designed to be accessible to crews, officers, shoreside teams, and maritime students alike, supporting a stronger culture of compliance, operational excellence, and professional responsibility across the industry.
