| I've started a rewatch comm at nx_rewatch. We're planning to do the whole series at the rate of one episode per week, starting Sunday, September 18th. Any and all discussion is welcome, from long meta essays to squeeful comments to barrages of gifs and macros. I'd love to see lots of y'all there. :) | |

| Well, we have made it thru Season One, and my hubby, as a first time viewer, had an interesting observation. The show reminds him of Green Acres. I guess that gives you a hint as to how old we are, lol! Who remembers Green Acres? And who agrees that there are quite a few elements of Green Acres in Northern Exposure?
Of course, at the core, we have the city-dweller (Joel/Oliver), who comes to the small town, as the "fish out of water" who totally does not "get it." He is the quintessensial outsider who thinks everyone else is just plain WACKY. And just like in Green Acres, we are seeing the town thru HIS eyes, which makes it the whole thing that much more fun.
But Joel's girlfriend Elaine, like Oliver's wife Lisa, seems to have no problem at all fitting in. She comes into the crazy little town and make friends right away, pretty much embracing the wackiness, much to the dismay of her signicant other. (We see Elaine in only one episode in Season One, and I don't remember if we see any more of her, but I hope we do---she's a great character!)
Holling is Sam Drucker, the mayor AND the saloon keeper, while Sam Drucker was the postmaster AND the owner of the general store. Ed is Eb, the somewhat goofy hired hand. Maurice is Mr. Haney, he's always got some get-rich quick scheme going on. And Arnold Ziffel (the pig!) is the moose that's always walking thru town.
If you know the show, you might be able to draw more comparison. I'm just mentioning this here as food for thought. Any thoughts?

| Hey! I joined a while ago but haven't been keeping up...sorry! But I recently had a N Ex experience I thought y'all might appreciate: my hubby and I got Season One on DVD last Christmas, but because we have SO MANY other shows waiting in line, we are only just now getting around to watching it. Last night we watched the pilot episode! It's been years and years since I've seen it, but I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it's still really fresh and enjoyable! I was afraid it might seem dated after so much time---but not at all!
Impressions from the Pilot: I think they did a good job of introducing everyone (except Chris! We only see him briefly in the end scenes)and introducing some of the themes that will run throughout the show. I did feel, however, that they didn't have Ed QUITE right. There was too much young Keanu Reeves about him. I like the direction they actually took him in much better than the goofy "Far out, Dude!" kind of guy they seemed to want to go with at first. Am I imagining, or has there been some change in Ed after the Pilot?
I'm fairly familiar with the show, but my hubby has never seen it at all. He said it was fun, but he feels they need some better looking girls! I said "You didn't like Maggie?" He said "Who's Maggie?" I explained, and he said, "Oh, you mean the one who looks like a man?" Haha! Sorry, but I've always thought Maggie is exceptionally pretty, even with the short, short hair.
I hope Shelly come into more in the next episode. I think he'll like her...

| Is that John Corbett's voice I'm hearing on TV commercials for Applebee's lately? Kind of sounds like Chris in the Morning.... *sigh*
What happened to John's country-music career? - Mood:curious

| I've been massively jonesing to see Northern Exposure again but it's not being rerun in my market and I don't have money for the discs. Does anyone know of a website that streams episodes over the internet? So many other classic shows are streamed nowadays. I'd love to find such a site.
Thanks so much. | |

| hey there guys, just have a question about the complete series dvd set that was released.
Do any of you know if these are the same dvds that you would find in the individual seasons? Reason I ask is because it got pretty bad reviews on Amazon, because of the music that's lacking.
I know they had to butcher some songs in the past, but do know if they butchered it anymore for the complete series release?

| FTP; This morning my lovely wife made "Adam's German Apple Pancake" for breakfast (had to modify for a 12" pan). I bought the CookBook for her just after we got married in '93. She had made me the aformentioned pancake, "The Brick's Kick @$$ Chilli", the "Biscuits and Gravy", "Marilyn's Seasoned Potatoes", "Day of the Dead Sugar Cookies", and "Pirozhki's". We have recently rewatched the first 4 seasons (getting 5&6 soon) and had to dig this out. So has any one else used this, what were your favorites?? - Location:Tacoma WA

It'f from the episode where Ed makes a little move about Cicely and Rick comes back as a dog... and Im annoyed now, because I forget who says it but the turn to Ed and say
"Ed, you're an Indian. Is this Rick?" oh that is too funny... oh and as a side note... does anyone else tear up a little at Ed's movie? - Mood:amused

| Hi! I'm a longtime fan of the show and in recent years introduced it to my boyfriend as well. We're currently watching season 5. For a while we've been compiling a ( Northern Exposure drinking gameCollapse )This is what we have so far, any additions are welcome. :) | |

| I just wanted to state that, as I'm watching season 6 for the first time, I'm seriously amazed. A while back I was freaking out because people were talking about how it went way downhill on season 6. But you know what? I think the season 6 episodes are JUST as good [if not better!] than all of the previous ones. They're just so conflicted and interesting and... gah, I just think they're all really good. I just finished "Mi Casa, Su Casa" and I'm looking forward to finally seeing "The Quest."
I know it was a little random, but I just felt like sharing. Obviously, none of my friends [I'm 16] will understand what I'm talking about, so I have to share it somewhere!

| Hey everyone! I just found this community. My parents got me into the show and I'm almost done with season 4.
Anyways, today my mom and I were driving from Seattle back to Spokane and I made her stop at Roslyn along the way! Unfortunately, we didn't have our camera, but we walked all along the main street. We stopped in Joel's office (the Cicely Gift Shop) and I got a shirt and the guy working there gave me a map of the town with all the important landmarks on it (aka the places in the show!) I especially enjoyed the huge framed photo of Rob in it. I wanted to go into Joel's office and the examining room, but they were blocked off.
We drove around and saw both of Maggie's cabins, Maurice's house, the KBHR station, the church, and we were going to go in The Brick but minors aren't allowed.
Basically it was amazing! Definitely a surreal experience...it was like I was in Cicely.
On July 9th John Corbett is coming to Roslyn and I guess he's going to play some music, I think Barry Corbin might be coming too....I really want to go.

| oh my lord, when did i turn into maggie?
i started watching the 3rd season the other day (i got it for christmas!) and first time around, i was about 16 or 17. being 28 and single and unable to find a man seemed like it was a whole world away... not to mention impossible.
but now that i'm 28 and watching it again for the first time in 10 odd years... almost everything coming out of that woman's mouth is verbatum what i'm spewing forth every day - all the man hating desparation that makes her so unattractive to men... it's all me!! when did this happen, lord? when???

| Hey everyone -- new to the community here!
I watched Northern Exposure back in the day -- we had a satellite dish and for whatever reason we could also pick up Innuit TV stations and I was young enough that I thought they were obviously connected. Like ... the Innuit TV stations were the behind the scenes footage or something.
Anyway, Happy New Year!

| I just finished watching the entire set of Season 5 DVDs and I have four questions:
1) is anyone tired of the theme song, it's really cute but I guess I have watched too many in a row? :D 2) is anyone really pissed at Rob Morrow? I was pissed off when it first got really bad after he left right before it was cancled, but then I didn't think it mattered because I didn't think it could get better... but now... I am all pissed off now because I don't want it to end :(
Also, Do you think Marilyn's fridge is turquoise on purpose?
and did anyone else nearly cry when Maggie realized that she really loved Joel in "A River Does Not Run Through It" when she sat at the air port and listend to his tape recorder?
