The archive and the collection
The archive and the collection of the Fundació Mies van der Rohe originated from the material generated during the reconstruction of the Pavilion, from the acquisition of photographs and historical objects related to the Pavilion and the 1929 International Exhibition of Barcelona, as well as from the photographic documentation of the reconstruction works.
Over the years, the archive and the collection have expanded as a result of the artistic and academic creations and perspectives that have taken place at the Pavilion, with the Pavilion as their focal point, through donations or the acquisition of some of the works exhibited or linked to the interventions.
Their growth is ongoing, and an important part of the collection consists of material related to the EUmies Awards, from their first edition in 1988 to the present day, as well as the incorporation of new pieces stemming from artists’ interventions, the Lilly Reich Grant for Equality in Architecture, other cultural activities, and the acquisition of historical documents.
The archive and the collection comprise works in a wide range of formats, materials and techniques, including photographs, drawings, sculptures, models, objects, installations, graphic materials and documents, among others.
The collection also includes audiovisual and sound recordings generated through debates, workshops, lectures, round tables, film programmes and other academic activities organised by the Foundation.
One of the Foundation’s priorities is the dissemination of the archive and the collection, with the aim of making the works they contain known and facilitating their loan for exhibitions whenever required and possible.
