Tanvi Asher, the visionary founder of Peppermint, started her boutique in 2011 with a passion for offering stylish, accessible clothing for women. A New Chapter for Peppermint
In 2016, Peppermint made a significant move to the Culver Road Armory, expanding its original 480-square-foot shop into a larger, more sophisticated space that allows customers to enjoy a full shopping experience, from local coffee spots to curated fashion and gifts. Now, in 2024, the boutique continues to evolve. As the store’s popularity grew, Tanvi and her team recognized the need for further expansion to better serve their loyal customer base.
The new space was a thrilling project for the Peppermint team, but it came with a few challenges—particularly when it came to the flooring. The original plan was to keep the wood flooring or go with a cement finish, but during the renovation, the existing flooring came up along with the display units, creating an unexpected hurdle.

The goal was to install flooring that closely resembled the sleek look of cement, keeping in line with the boutique’s chic, modern aesthetic. Tanvi Asher, originally from India, moved to the U.S. in 2000 and pursued her master’s degree in industrial design at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Her journey from selling handmade scarves at local craft shows to owning one of Rochester’s most beloved boutiques is a testament to her entrepreneurial spirit. Peppermint is known for its vintage-inspired yet modern pieces, offering a range of casual and statement pieces at an affordable price point.
In addition to the expansion of Peppermint, Tanvi also opened Salty, a sister store with a more youthful, eclectic vibe. Both boutiques are deeply rooted in the local community, supporting local artisans and providing unique products that reflect the essence of Rochester.
