Peter Messner, the former President of Messner Flooring, dedicated over 40 years to shaping the company into a leader in commercial and retail flooring. Beginning in 1977 as his father’s first employee, he gradually mastered skills in estimating, project management, and operations. Subsequently, in 1987, he purchased the company and led it through decades of remarkable growth while consistently maintaining its commitment to quality. Now, as he proudly passes the torch to his son, Ted Messner, the family legacy of excellence in flooring continues to thrive.

1962 → Ben Messner opens the B. J. Messner Co. in a one-room office on Monroe Avenue, presently, Cornell’s Jewelers.
1972 → The company moves to a small office/sample room on Saginaw Drive.
1977 → Peter joins the firm after Ben’s health setback.
1978 → The company expands to its first retail flooring store location, a 1000 sq. ft. showroom and office at 28 South Main Street in the village of Pittsford.
1980 → The first 1000 sq. ft. warehouse opens on Monroe Avenue in Pittsford.
1984 → Messner moves to a 3,000 sq. ft. warehouse and expands into additional offices. Peter’s brother Greg joins the company.
1987 → After Ben suffers another health setback, Peter takes control of the company which has grown to five employees.
1988 → The South Main Street location undergoes a major renovation celebrating 25 years with a Grand Reopening.
1989 → The commercial division, operations, and warehouse move to Halstead Street in Rochester.
1993 → The company purchases the former Pittsford Post office at 19 Monroe Avenue and remodels the building to house retail and administration as well as State Farm Insurance.
1997 & 1998 → Awarded 2 years in a row as the Greater Rochester Chamber’s Top 100 fastest-growing companies
1999 → Messner Flooring Re:Source is launched and moves to a 18,000 sq. ft. facility on University Ave. The flooring store is renovated to house the new Martha Stewart flooring line.
2008 → State Farm moves out of the Main Street building and the Rug Room opens.
2009 → The store is fully renovated and now occupies all 5,800 square feet. Messner receives the Pittsford Business Person of the year award.
2013 → Peter’s son Ted Messner joins the commercial division.
2015 → Company expands to Greece with the opening of a Flooring America Aligned Store. Messner moves to the Q Floor Platform which enhances business procedures and allows for future growth.
2017 → Messner Carpet becomes Messner Flooring when the company rebrands and unifies with a new logo and look.
2020 → Third Generation Messners become company vice presidents.
2021 → Pittsford flooring store is renovated to enhance the expansion of hard surface flooring.
2022 → Messner Flooring makes Rochester Top 100 fastest-growing, privately-owned companies for the third time.
2023 → Greece store is renovated and the Flooring America Banner is dropped. Messner Flooring is again a Rochester Top 100 Company. Messner Flooring Joins the Premier Flooring Center Network.
