ABOUT THE LABEL

Since we operate as a creative hub, which includes a professional recording studio, the vast majority of label releases come via the studio. I’m in and out of the studio on most days and every now and then, an artist catches my attention. It’s at that point, that I’ll have an initial conversation about releasing on the label. Keeping our releases ‘home grown’ as it were, allows for a more organic approach. I’m also keen for releases, irrespective of genre, to have an identifiable sound associated with our team and facilities.

Marlene Hill - Fight For The Feeling

Gravyboat - Sorry 'ard

“Sorry ‘ard chronicles lost loves in Save Your Life, Potassium and Bad Blood, albeit in a cynical and often explosive manner. Pollution and It’s All in Your Head touch upon the journey that poor mental health can take us on, shining a light on depression and how this mind views it. There may be a common ground to have with listeners, but either way the emotionally charged lyrics juxtapose with rock riffs that require turning up loud, be it to enjoy or to drown out the noise.”
~ Sam Cutbush (Gravyboat)

Marlene Hill - Fight For The Feeling

Southerlies - Raise A Glass For My Brother

“Raise A Glass For My Brother comes from the loss of a dear close friend and band member who had been part of the Southerlies’ core for many years. Faisal Sketty was a much loved and admired chromatic harmonica player who had been on the Hampshire/Portsmouth music scene for many years and was taken away far too soon.
This song tells the story of how he is missed and just what he meant to all the people around him.
In an ironic twist the Southerlies were writing a lot of slower ballad and folky type songs back in 2020. Faisal’s big inspiration was Stevie Wonder, so this song is an upbeat homage to that era and to the type of song that Faisal would have loved to play along with.
The Southerlies vocal harmonies keep this song expressive and alive, and incorporate some of those classic epic guitar riffs that you expect to hear in the middle sections. You will even hear a tribute harmonica part from the Southerlies bass player, Sam Cutbush, to boot.
Raise A Glass to this time of year, ‘Raise A Glass For My Brother’, peace and love to you all.”
– Ross Murphy Southerlies
Marlene Hill - Fight For The Feeling

Gravyboat - Eternal Pessimist

Gravyboat is the solo project of Portsmouth musician Sam Cutbush. After years spent in well-established bands such as Foxer, Dead Witches, Sabres and Funeral Witch Blues, Sam wanted to see what music he produced almost entirely on his own would sound like.

Eternal Pessimist is an honest title of an honest EP in a glass-half-empty world, aiming to flip the narrative for the listener.

“This Party Sucks – Written in lockdown, about lockdown and the mental impact it had. The product of having to keep myself occupied. Didn’t mean for it to sound so 90’s initially.
Every Saturday – Came about as a result of noodling on a 12 string guitar stumbling on a riff that chimed, a little like The Cult’s She Sells Sanctuary, which soundtracked a self-reflection on mental health
Staring Into Space – Collab with Diamondback Kid, railing against the dumbing down of the working class world and the people in it.
Higher & Higher – Acoustic version of a song I wrote 15 years ago that and has been with me ever since. Bluesy in places, life-affirming in others.”
– Sam Cutbush (Gravyboat)

Casual Scene - Six Feet Tall

Ever felt like you’re on top of the world and you can take on anything that comes your way? Well that is the endorphin rush that Casual Scene’s new song ‘Six Feet Tall’ will send coursing through your veins. A song about how the loved ones in our lives will always make you feel like you’re exactly where you want to be.
Originally started as a slow introspective song by Ben, the band flipped it on it’s head to make it the upbeat indie rock anthem that it is today. From the instant hit of adrenaline that Curts’ drums bring, the joyous bassline that Tim lays downs, to the final screech of Olys lead guitar, this tune will keep you coming back for another hit of that glorious uplifting indie rock magic.

Sabres - Tell Me Where It Hurts

Portsmouth natives making noise of oceanic proportions with just drums and bass guitar, eschewing comparisons to Pompey’s respective Royal Blood. Drawing influence from grunge, punk, stoner and desert rock, Sabres do not pigeonhole easily, and have quickly developed a disruptive sound and character since their founding in late 2021.

Angst is nothing thematically new to rock & roll, however new epochs breed new crises, new fears and perversions, which Sabres tackle in their music: from the corruption and negligence of a Johnson-led government, to tabloid propaganda, to mental health struggles, and reflecting on the anger and trauma that still poisons the male psyche.

Mary Red - Sunshine

‘Sunshine’ is a chilled Summer sublime-pop record and is Mary’s 10th single released on Mayfield Records. Mary Red is a phenomenal and unique singer. She is also a prolific song-writer blending various styles and genres to include soul, RnB, EDM and folk. She has also collaborated with other label artists on Mayfield Records, which is testament to her versatile and remarkable vocal talent. Her lyrics always speak the truth and cover a range of thought-provoking themes to include mental health, relationships and humanity. The Farrago - Brownie

The Farrago exemplify everything there is to love about Brighton, their name means a confused mixture, and they are just that; an array of contrasting characters creating a cacophony from their eclectic range of influences to deliver a punky/poppy/indie edge.

Formed in late 2019 amid pandemic panic they’re just happy to be here. Since coming together, they’ve played at sold out venues in Brighton and Portsmouth, performed at Victorious Festival as well as supporting the likes of The Lottery Winners at Portsmouth‘s Guildhall. ‘Brownie’ is an upchuck of punky, new wave angst, all over the shoes of Blink 182.

“Our sound encapsulates the Brighton scene; as wavey as the seashore, as bright as the pier, and as loud as the city streets.” – Archie
