‘Deadbeat’ is the debut EP by British Post-Punk outfit DXTA. Written and recorded during covid lockdowns, then polished and brought to fruition in 2022, it features the tracks ‘Only In LDN’, ‘Wait and See’, ‘Get Away’ and ‘Reality’. ‘ deadbeat’ has a running theme of raw, honest and sometimes grizzly tales of life, placed lovingly upon melodic and infectious beats. 

Recorded from home and polished at Mayfield Records, ‘Only In LDN’ is a running commentary from frontman Dex’s time spent in London; from the busking rastas to the weekend warriors and the rucking homeless that fill the streets of Brixton, Peckham and Camden. ‘Wait and See’ is a comment on relationship breakdowns, political mistreatment during life’s most testing times and clawing at the walls, unable to escape because of the lurking unknown illness that awaits outside. ‘Get Away’ tells of simply wanting to break out of said walls with little to entertain yourself but scroll endlessly through social media platforms with a minimal sense of hope that one will find some meaning or fulfilling entertainment, only to find relentless self indulgence and fake selfie poses instead. And last but certainly not least – ‘Reality’. The raw angry climax of the EP sets the record straight that after all this reflection, the conclusion drawn is life rarely ends up how one pictured it. We were promised a bright future at the end of our education, if we worked hard enough anything we wanted would surely be ours. Yet what we are left with is our daily struggle, the daily grind, the rat race in which we all find ourselves in with only crumbs left of what we thought would be ours.
