Luke Bowman and Eoin O’Hearn Offered Fulbright Award for 2026-2027

Congratulations to Luke Bowman and Eoin O’Hearn on their recognition in the Fulbright U.S. Student Program competition for 2026–2027. Luke, who recently completed his B.S. in Mathematics, is among ten University of Alabama students who have been offered Fulbright awards this year. He will serve as an English Teaching Assistant in Germany. 2026 Alabama Summer Undergraduate Math Workshop

The Department of Mathematics was pleased to host the 2026 Alabama Summer Undergraduate Math Workshop, a four-day program designed to support and inspire undergraduate students in mathematics. The workshop featured plenary lectures, mini-courses, problem-solving sessions, and professional development activities, providing participants with valuable opportunities to deepen their mathematical knowledge and explore academic and career pathways. Bulent Tosun’s Publication Accepted in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS)

Congratulations to Dr. Tosun on the acceptance of his joint paper, “Knotted solid tori in contact manifolds,” for publication in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Widely regarded as one of the world’s premier multidisciplinary research journals, PNAS is exceptionally selective and is considered alongside Nature and Science among the most prestigious venues for scientific research.
