The Gift (WDYS #334)…

The Gift

Belinda’s eyes were transfixed on this pirate ship her mom has as a background on her phone.

It was a happy place to imagine being there as opposed to all the yelling, screaming, and violence between her parents that happened daily.

She was able to block out every ounce of negativity that engulfed her young, innocent mind. She considered it a gift, the gift of imagination, a tool used as a security blanket in a bad situation that thankfully never directly involved her.

I need to stop seeing horror(ible) films (Film Review)…

THEY WILL KILL YOU

Sigh.

i went in partially blind to see this piece of shit film.

I follow a reaction YouTuber called FlixTalk and he did an out of theater showing review of this film. He said that is was a hard core gore fest in the vein of Evil Dead 2 & Kill Bill. Some horror, some over the top gore, some humour and quite a bit of action. I was intrigued.

Yes, there is truth in that but for a film with the following plot synopsis: The story follows a woman who takes a live-in job at a mysterious New York building called the Virgil, only to realize its elite residents have a long history of disappearances and are, in fact, part of a Satanic cult.

Despite what that says..there is absolutely no horror, no tension, no sense of dread, not even any cheap jump scare moments. Just essentially 90 min of over the top action, acting and violence. Total 100 % cheese from the likes of Patricia Arquette, Heather Graham & Tom Felton who most likely did this for the pay check.

OMG was this film a snoozefest !!! I was so freaking bored, I need plot. I need characters to care enough about to want to see survive or be killed, this dreck has none of that.

I must be getting old, maybe my teenage self or 20-something self would’ve loved this but 55 me thought it royally sucked.

I give it a half of a 🗡 out of 5 (It was visually cool but lacked everything else)

Last Game of the Season

It’s the bottom of the 9th in our last game against the Shanty Town Sharks. I’ve been pitching a perfect game until now.

The Umpire yells “Ball 4!” and the batter saunters to first base along to the Miami Sound Machine lyrics to Conga “…’Cause tonight we’re gonna party’Til we see the break of day…”. Perfect soundtrack for a pitcher about to throw in the towel.

The Sharks crush it and win the game. No laughs only cries in our luxury bus headed home.

Buyer Beware (Update)…

**After Contacting Etsy, about the crap customer service of the designer I bought this from, Etsy stepped in and stepped up and offered me a full refund in Etsy Credit**

I support designers on Etsy, for the most part the product is as advertised. This shirt is advertised as a humorous subtle protest shirt utilizing ASL.

TOO BAD THE FIRST WORD IS “BUCK” AND NOT WHAT WAS ADVERTISED.

So, I guess the joke is on me for not doing research on ASL before commiting to the design. I asked for a replacement and was told shirts are made to order. No Refunds or Replacements.

BUCK er FUCK TC Tee Comfort Shirt out of Houston Texas and their fraudulent product !!!

Another Glimpse into my job as a Digital Archivist…

Currently working on a project which consists of boxes containing books of varying page sizes from small pamphlets of 30 pages up to books of over 1500 pages. Some of these books have perfect binding which, contrary to its name, are far from perfect and rarely lay flat, which means I have to massage the spine to loosen the pages from the glue to handle easier.

Some of these books are side-stapled, making it impossible for the books to lay flat, so I have to remove these industrial-sized long staples by hand with the use of a paring knife. I have to remove the pages of the large paginated books a few pages at a time.

Aspects of my job can be quite time-consuming; thankfully, most of these are not in terrible condition like brittle, almost dust-like pages that fellow techs deal with in their projects.

Each book is placed on a springboard device for the left and right side pages. I have to use black molding foam pieces to have each side of the book lay flat when I bring the cradle down to take the exposure. There are also two black mats behind a few pages on each side to give off a cleaner appearance.

Flipping the pages of an older book with my left hand as I am about to bring down the cradle with glass to take an exposure of the two pages of this book.

The cloth glove I am wearing is to protect the glass from being scratched by my wedding ring. The rubber thumb is used to make it easier to turn pages, especially if they are sticking together or are as thin as tissue paper.

The software used, as seen below, is camera software called Capture One. As you can see, I wasn’t quick to remove my hand, and it landed in an exposure. To fix this, I deleted that exposure and reset the naming to continue in numerical order.

I know it sounds and looks really complicated, but I have been doing this job for the last 26 years, and in that time, things have gotten easier and far more automated than when I was scanning microfilm back in 1999.
