All submissions open December 23, 2022 at 7:00am EST and end January 7, 2023 at 12:00am EST.

Public voting and judging will occur between January 7, 2023 at 3:00pm EST until January 11, 2023 at 6:00pm EST.

Winners will be announced on January 12, 2023 at 6:00pm EST.

Eligibility

All participants must be a current student attending Maple High School.

Project and Submission Requirements

Hackathon submissions must be hosted on Repl.it with tag "#maplecshacks2023". Check out our Resources panel for Repl.it related information.

Submissions must follow a criteria before they are considered for judging.

Low/No-code Ideathon Submissions:

For your submission to qualify and be judged for the Low/No-code Ideathon, the following criteria must be met:

  • The submission must not primarily be designed with code,
  • The submission must not be worked on prior to when submission dates are open,
  • An up-to-5 minute video presentation demonstrating the hack must be present containing:
    • The problem that the idea will solve, and how the idea will solve it,
    • A demo of the idea highlighting how the idea will work
  • The submission must fit the given theme.
Hackathon Submissions

For your submission to qualify and be judged for the Hackathon, the following criteria must be met:

  • The submission must primarily be designed with code,
  • The submission must be original code. StackOverflow or similar sites are okay to use, but you must not take/copy code directly from other software.
  • Development must not begin before submissions are open,
  • A writeup must be submitted on the DevPost highlighting:
    • An introduction of the hack, and how it solves the problem at hand,
    • A description/list of all technologies used in the hack,
    • A description containing what you learned from this experience,
    • A description of what challenges you encountered along the way,
    • A description of "what's next" for the hack.
  • An up-to-5 minute video presentation demonstrating the hack must be present containing:
    • A brief introduction of the hack, and how it solves the problem at hand,
    • A brief demonstration of how the hack works, including all features,
  • The submission must fit the given theme.

Cross submissions for other hackathons are allowed, but development must not have started prior our submissions open.

Prizes

Physical prizes may not be available to ship outside of Canada.

Judging Criteria and Winner Selection

Submissions will undergo a score-based judgement system, where specific qualities of their submissions will be judged from 1-10.

The top 3 hackathon submissions with the highest average score between all judging criterias will be awarded their respective prizes. 

The top ideathon submission with the highest average score will win the "Best Idea" award.

Hackathon submissions that score the highest in an individual judging criteria will win an award related to that criteria.

Submissions that possess the highest amount of community votes during the voting period will win an award for "Popular choice".
