Pierre a renié Jésus trois fois.

    AMEN.

  • As a pop music fan, I used to watch the Grammy Awards on TV. In recent years, award shows have been tainted by performers criticizing the president and promoting ungodly political views. Not surprisingly, many of them last night wore “ICE Out” buttons to protest illegal aliens being deported from this country. Fortunately, one talked about something more important. Country singer/rapper Jelly Roll held up a Bible along with his Grammy and stated, “Jesus is for everybody…anyone can have a relationship with Him. I love you, Lord!”

  • A Careful Christian Perspective on Women Wearing Trousers

    (Deuteronomy 22:5 in Context)

This is a very sensitive issue, and it is one of the topics that has, unfortunately, divided the Church. Even though it is mentioned only once in Scripture, Deuteronomy 22:5, it has been used to draw strong conclusions, sometimes without careful interpretation. I want us to approach this matter with caution, humility, and understanding. Even if you do not agree with everything I say, I ask that you listen carefully and consider the reasoning behind it.

    1. Understanding the Historical Context of Deuteronomy 22:5

When Moses gave this law to Israel, trousers did not exist in the land of Israel. The common clothing of that time consisted mainly of robes or garments, not trousers as we know them today. The distinction between male and female clothing was not about trousers versus skirts, but about clearly identifiable garments designed differently for men and women.

Even the priestly garments, such as those worn by Aaron, were robes. The difference was in design, cut, and symbolism, not in modern clothing categories.

    2. Why This Law Was Given

The law in Deuteronomy 22:5 was not arbitrary. God was setting moral and cultural boundaries for Israel so they would not imitate the surrounding nations. Many of those neighboring cultures practiced cross-dressing and gender confusion, often connected to pagan or occultic worship.

God’s intention was distinction, that Israel would look different, live differently, and worship differently. This law addressed identity and intention, not fashion trends or future clothing developments.

    3. The Gap Between Moses and Jesus

There is roughly a 1,400–1,500 year gap between Moses and Jesus. During this long period, clothing evolved across cultures. Yet even in the time of Jesus, trousers were still not common in Israel. Roman influence later introduced new clothing styles, including early forms of trousers, mainly for soldiers and colder climates.

Jesus Himself wore garments similar to what both men and women wore, yet no one accused Him of violating Deuteronomy 22:5, because the issue was never about trousers it was about gender distinction and intention.

    4. Trousers and Cultural Development

Historically, trousers are believed to have originated in Central Asia, with early usage traced to China. Over time, trousers spread across cultures due to climate, war, colonization, and practicality.

In Africa, traditional clothing consisted largely of robes, wrappers, loose garments, or animal skins, suited for hot climates. Trousers became widespread much later particularly during colonization and modernization in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Today, trousers are fully embedded in global culture, and there are clearly distinct designs for men and women.

    5. The Real Issue: Cross-Dressing, Not Trousers

The real biblical concern is cross-dressing, intentionally presenting oneself as the opposite gender not women wearing trousers designed for women.

If we apply Deuteronomy 22:5 rigidly without context, then:

Men wearing garments (jalabia, agbada, kaftans) could also be accused of sin.

Cultural clothing worn by both genders would become problematic.

This shows that the verse cannot be applied mechanically. Intention, identity, and distinction are the key issues.

    6. Interpreting Scripture Responsibly

The Bible was written for us, but it was not written to us. Proper interpretation requires understanding:

    Who it was written to

    When it was written

    Why it was written

When we ignore historical and cultural context, we risk turning Scripture into a weapon rather than a guide.

    7. The Gospel Comes First

Our primary assignment as Christians is not to enforce moral codes, but to preach Christ.

Many people have been pushed away from the gospel not because Christ is offensive, but because believers try to do the Holy Spirit’s work for Him. Conviction is the work of the Spirit, not ours.

    You do not begin with:

“If you wear trousers, you’ll go to hell.”

    You begin with:

    “Come and meet Jesus.”

Correction belongs after salvation, not before it.

    8. A Call for Humility and Love

Some believers have elevated themselves as more righteous simply because of how they dress, while ignoring deeper issues of the heart. Ironically, some skirts worn today are more revealing than trousers, yet trousers are singled out as sinful.

    This should humble us.

    9. Final Decision and Conclusion

Deuteronomy 22:5 does not forbid women from wearing trousers.
It forbids intentional gender confusion and cross-dressing.

Christianity is not about clothing policing; it is about Christ preaching.
Before morals, there must be salvation.
Before correction, there must be love.

Let us stop dividing the Church over issues that require wisdom, context, and grace and return to the core of the gospel: Jesus Christ.

Why Should You Care About Saving the Earth?

Who has a claim against me that I must pay? Everything under heaven belongs to me. Job 41:11

Oil spills which destroy the environment, pelicans and albatrosses who eat plastic, chemical waste which kill fish, marine life and destroy natural resources, and rusted beer cans which litter the landscape: how much of this is of concern to you? Or should it be at all?

A generation ago, Christians sang the words of a hymn written by Malthie Babcock which go, “This is my Father’s World, and to my list’ning ear, all nature sings, and round me rings, the music of the spheres.” Yes, the world still belongs to Him, but there’s one thing for sure: In the past century, with burgeoning masses of people: the proliferation of plastics and synthetics, the widespread use of industrial chemicals which get dumped into our rivers and oceans, and the widespread disregard of the ecology, the air has become polluted, the water we drink is often unsafe, and the beautiful landscapes and beaches have become littered with filth which was unimaginable to my grandfather.

I’ll never forget the personal revulsion I felt when I took my kids backpacking into a wilderness area and as a trail crested the peak, we looked down on a beautiful meadow—a small hut at one end which we thought had been used by a logger or an earlier settler. As we made our way through the lush valley toward the abandoned hut, the closer we got, the greater was the concentration of rusting beer and pop cans and plastic and trash which had been left by careless campers.

Question: Should the environment be a cause of concern to those of us who are Christians? I cringe a bit even as I ask the question. For a long while, many of us who believe God created our beautiful world have looked the other way, not wanting to come down on the side of the environmentalists and the liberals who stand for Green Peace and the ecological balance in nature.

“They just go too far,” I’ve heard good people say, but the fact is if they go too far, we should even be more shamed because we haven’t gone any distance at all in protesting what is happening to our world, the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the environment in which we must raise our children.

It’s high time that all of us who believe this is God’s world to use our influence, our resources, and our abilities to preserve the beauty of the world God has given to us.

All of us are victims when major industries and companies ignore public health and safety, and we say or do nothing because it isn’t your child suffering from leukemia or it wasn’t your boss who said, “Dump this stuff, get rid of it, anywhere!”

“All that is necessary for evil to triumph,” said Edmund Burke, “is for good men to do nothing.” Yes, I know I can’t fight and die on every hill, but what you can do, you ought to do. Like what? First make sure you don’t contribute to the problem. Litter, whether it is on a trail or allowing your kids to drop their candy and gum wrappers, is inexcusable. Sort and recycle even if you don’t like it.

Read with discernment. Rain forests that have died because loggers cut the trees or global warming that threatens to make the oceans rise may be beyond your ability to stop. But you can plant a tree, you can cultivate a flower, you can ride your bicycle instead of crank up the car, you can carpool it, buy small, more efficient vehicles and appliances, and use a fan occasionally instead of the air con.

If this is God’s world, and you are God’s child, it’s time to start taking care of His property. It’s a family matter.
