FOR 300 YEARS, EVERY CHRISTIAN REFUSED TO KILL. WHAT CHANGED?

Saints, I need you to brace your spirits. We are going into the deep archives of our history to confront a massive, uncomfortable truth. By the apostolic and prophetic mandate of heaven, I am issuing an indictment against the "Constantinian Shift"—the moment the Church stopped being a persecuted counter-culture and became a persecuting political power.
For the first three centuries, the followers of Jesus were known for one radical, "impossible" lifestyle: They would rather die than kill. They understood that you cannot represent the Lamb of God while wielding the blade of Caesar. But then came the year 313 AD. Emperor Constantine claimed the Cross as a battle emblem, and suddenly, the "Unstoppable Life" was replaced by "State-Sanctioned Violence."
It is time for an expository awakening. Why did the early Church believe what they believed, and why did we stop?
THE INDICTMENT: THE WEDDING OF THE CROSS AND THE SWORD
Before the 4th Century, writers like Tertullian, Origen, and Justin Martyr were unanimous: Christians do not fight. They took Jesus literally when He said, "Put your sword back in its place, for all who draw the sword will die by the sword" (Matthew 26:52).
But when the Church moved from the catacombs to the palace, we made a demonic trade. We traded the Power of the Spirit for the Power of the State. We stopped relying on the "foolishness of the Cross" to change hearts and started relying on the "legislation of the Sword" to control bodies. The indictment is this: We have become so "patriotic" to our earthly kingdoms that we have committed treason against the Kingdom of Heaven.
EXPOSITORY EVIDENCE: THE WAY OF THE LAMB
Let the Scriptures dismantle our "justified" violence and reveal the radical non-resistance of the Kingdom:
Matthew 5:38-39, 44 – "But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also... But I say to you, love your enemies..."
The Prophetic Reality: Jesus didn't give these commands as "suggestions" for when life is easy. He gave them to people living under brutal Roman military occupation! He was establishing a new way to be human—one that breaks the cycle of violence by absorbing it rather than reflecting it.
2 Corinthians 10:4 – "For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds."
The Apostolic Boundary: Paul explicitly defines our arsenal. If your "weapon" can draw blood, it is not a Kingdom weapon. Our weapons are truth, love, prayer, and sacrifice. When the Church picks up carnal weapons, she admits she has lost faith in her spiritual ones!
John 18:36 – "Jesus answered, 'My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight... but now My kingdom is not from here.'"
The Indictment: Jesus makes the absence of violence the primary evidence that His Kingdom is divine. If we are fighting earthly battles with earthly methods, we are declaring to the world that our Kingdom is of this world.
THE UNSTOPPABLE LIFE: VICTORIOUS THROUGH VULNERABILITY
The early Church conquered the Roman Empire without firing a shot or swinging a blade. They conquered through Metanoia and Martyrdom. They believed that the greatest victory wasn't staying alive at all costs, but staying faithful to the Way of Jesus at all costs.
When we justify violence—whether in our homes, our politics, or our wars—we are essentially saying that Jesus’s way "doesn't work" in the real world. We are calling the Prince of Peace a naive dreamer. But the "Unstoppable Life" is only unstoppable because it is not afraid of death! You cannot stop a man who is already dead to himself and refuses to hate his enemy.
YOUR APOSTOLIC CALL TO ACTION
Saints, it is time to divorce the spirit of "State-Religion" and return to the radical Way of the Lamb. If the Holy Spirit is convicting you of a heart that is too quick to anger, too quick to defend "rights" with force, or too aligned with the violence of this world, take action:
