Jesus wasnโt speaking in riddles. In His time, salt was gathered from the Dead Sea region, mixed with minerals and dust. When exposed to moisture or stored carelessly, the real salt dissolved, leaving behind a white residue. It looked like salt, but it could no longer preserve, flavor, or protect. What remained was thrown out and trampled underfoot.
Everyone listening had seen this happen.
And thatโs the warning. Faith can still look right on the outsideโwords, routines, even ministryโyet slowly lose the inner substance that gives it power.
Daily situations where we risk losing our โsaltinessโ:
โข Sharing Godโs Word but compromising truth to avoid conflict
โข Praying in public but skipping private prayer
โข Offering kindness, yet grumbling when things donโt go our way
โข Teaching or leading others, but holding onto bitterness
โข Giving advice or guidance, but ignoring it in our own lives
โข Carrying routines of worship but losing the fire in our hearts
Salt doesnโt lose its strength by being usedโit loses it by being diluted and disconnected from its source.
Jesus ends with a call, not a condemnation:
Not just faith that is visibleโbut faith that still changes everything it touches.
Dear Lord, keep my faith pure and alive. Remove anything that dilutes my devotion. Restore the taste of obedience, the power of prayer, and help me bring Your peace and light in every part of my day. In Jesusโ Name I Ask. Amen.
