FUNCTIONING WITH DIVINE COMPETENCE*
REV. AROME E. TOKULA
2 Corinthians 3:5 (Passion)
Yet we don’t see ourselves as capable enough to do anything in OUR OWN STRENGTH, for OUR TRUE COMPETENCE flows from God’s EMPOWERING PRESENCE.
When Apostle Paul declared in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me,” he was referring to God’s superior ability by which he functioned in life. Beyond desiring to do something, the requisite ability is required to be able to execute that desire and every ‘heavenly’ desire will require a ‘heavenly’ ability to execute. This is why Paul says in 2 Corinthians 3:6, “… who (God) also made US SUFFICIENT AS MINISTERS of the new covenant …”
A ‘minister of God’ isn’t referring to pastors, evangelists, or apostles only; it also means one who runs errands for God! Regardless of your field or the assignment given to you by God, you must see yourself as the Father’s errand man/woman. This reality will bring you to a place where you will realize your need for God’s ability to do what He wants you to do.
Our text says, “We don’t SEE OURSELVES as CAPABLE ENOUGH to DO ANYTHING in our OWN STRENGTH…” This means we have abilities but we refuse to ‘see’ ourselves in the light of our abilities because of how limited we can be in ourselves! The mindset of ‘self-sufficiency’ outside God is the reason many keep failing but like Apostle Paul reveals to us;
“… our TRUE COMPETENCE flows from God’s EMPOWERING PRESENCE.” When others come to their wit's end, we keep towering higher and higher because there is a superior ability that invigorates and strengthens us!
The word ‘competence’ in our text is from the Greek word ‘hikanotes’ and it is translated as _'to be sufficient’_ in some other versions of the Bible but it also means _’to be fit, able, enough, great and large enough to undertake a task.’ God has made you fit for any task!
There are things that the Father will inspire your heart to do. For example, He can instruct you to build a children’s facility in your community that you don’t have the natural resources to undertake! Humanly speaking it mighty look impossible, rather than get discouraged, it should be the reason you look up to Him and trust Him completely and as you do, His power gets expressed through you to do the impossible!
This superior ability is in you. It came to you at the new birth when you received the very life and nature of God. What this means is that you have God’s divine ability to function with, you only need to be more conscious of it like Apostle Paul in Philippians 4:13. If you aren’t aware of God’s ability in you, there will always be a tendency to concede to failure and defeat but you need to know that as a child of God there is nothing that is beyond you. You are born of God and as such you are up to any task!
DECLARE
I have the life and ability of God functioning through me. There is nothing that is beyond me because the infinite intelligence of divinity is expressed through all my faculties. I face life today without fear because I am not standing in my strength, ability, or capacity but with the strength of the Almighty. I declare that I am doing well in all that I set out to do in the Name of Jesus Christ.
