Apostles and Prophets TRUTH BOMB
The Bible gives plenty of evidence that the era of the Apostles and Prophets has ceased because
1) The foundation of the Church was laid
Ephesians 2:19-20 NIV
[19] Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, [20] built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.

2) The canon of Scripture is complete and closed, meaning Christ's revelation through the scriptures is sufficient for all of God's purposes
The church being built on the unique, foundational role of Apostles and prophets, is a foundation that, once laid, does not need to be laid again
The Bible is very clear that God's final revelation came through His Son and that further public revelation is unnecessary, with warnings against adding to His Word
Revelation 22:18-19 NIV
[18] I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. [19] And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll.

The church is built on the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone
The laying of this foundation was a unique event in the early church, with a limited duration, and once laid, it was finished
The Bible makes it very clear that the canon of Scripture is closed, and the written Word of God is sufficient and complete for all matters of faith and practice
2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV
[16] All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, [17] so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

God has provided His inerrant and infallible Word through these foundational figures, making further living Prophets and Apostles unnecessary for transmitting new divine revelation
Hebrews 1:1-2 NIV
[1] In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, [2] but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.

Christ is the Final Revelation, meaning that God NO longer has to speak through the prophets or Apostles because He has already said, EVERYTHING He needs to say through Jesus Christ
MEANING WE EITHER TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT, we cannot ADD to IT
Jesus represents the fullness of God's divine revelation, and the age of Prophets delivering any revelations ended with Him
The New Testament Apostles had a specific qualification
They had to be witnesses of the resurrected Christ, hence why Jesus appeared to Paul in such a dramatic encounter
Acts 9:3-6 NIV
[3] As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. [4] He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” [5] “Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked. “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. [6] “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”

The original 12 Apostles were chosen directly by Jesus, NOT by themselves or ordained by some church
An argument can be made for the replacement of Judas to Matthias but this still holds weight because he was ordained by those who walked and ate with Jesus
The role of the Old Testament Prophet, who conveyed new revelations from God, found its fulfillment in Christ
Deuteronomy 18:15-20 NIV
[15] The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him. [16] For this is what you asked of the Lord your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, “Let us not hear the voice of the Lord our God nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die.” [17] The Lord said to me: “What they say is good. [18] I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites, and I will put my words in his mouth. He will tell them everything I command him. [19] I myself will call to account anyone who does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name. [20] But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, is to be put to death.”

Jesus was the Prophet like Moses, and no additional public revelations beyond Christ and His APPOINTED Apostles are necessary ANYMORE
