Midnight shock!
Eve didn't understand death! She had never seen it. It wasnt a concept she likely ever fully understood. Adam too, was told, of the fruit if the tree, "in the day you eat of it you will surely die."
To Adam, God must have explained what death was, but how does one understand a concept so unfamiliar?
