- DISCOVERING YOUR PURPOSE ACCORDING TO GOD
Introduction
Every person born into this world carries something divine inside them: a God-given purpose. Before your family knew you, before society named you, and before you ever took your first breath, God already had a plan for your life. Purpose is not found in achievements, money, or status—true purpose is found in the One who created you.
1. God Knew You Before You Were Born
Jeremiah 1:5 (NKJV)
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”
This scripture reveals three powerful truths:
1. God knew you
You were not an accident. You are not a mistake. Before your parents met, God already had a blueprint for your life.
2. God set you apart
This means your life has meaning. You were marked for something special.
3. God appointed you
You were assigned a role in the kingdom. Purpose doesn’t start when you discover it—it starts when God speaks it.
2. God’s Purpose Is Intentional, Not Accidental
Psalm 139:16 (NLT)
“Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.”
Your life is not random; it is written. God has a divine script, and every chapter—joy, pain, victory, challenges—works together for your purpose.
Even when life doesn’t make sense, God’s plan is still intact.
Isaiah 46:10
“…My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.”
No mistake, no failure, no delay, and no opposition can cancel what God has written about you.
3. God’s Purpose Works Through Process
Many people love the idea of a divine calling but struggle with the process. God develops us through experiences.
Examples from Scripture:
Joseph – Genesis 37–50
God gave Joseph dreams, but the path to purpose included a pit, slavery, and prison.
The process didn’t destroy him—it prepared him.
In the end, Joseph said:
“You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good.” (Genesis 50:20)
Your setbacks are not the end; they are part of your preparation.
David – 1 Samuel 16–17
David was anointed king, but he returned to tending sheep. His purpose began in the field, not the palace. God used lions, bears, and a giant named Goliath to train him.
Sometimes your purpose starts in small places before it manifests in great places.
Moses – Exodus 3–4
Moses was called to deliver Israel, but he spent 40 years in the wilderness. The wilderness wasn’t punishment—it was training.
God often hides you before He uses you.
4. God’s Purpose Is Connected to His Will
Romans 12:2
“…that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
To discover God’s purpose:
You must surrender your own plans
You must allow God to renew your mind
You must align with His Word and voice
Purpose becomes clearer when your heart becomes available.
5. You Are Created for Good Works
Ephesians 2:10
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
You are God’s masterpiece. You were created with a mission. There are people assigned to your gift, your calling, your voice, your story.
Walking in your purpose brings glory to God and fulfillment to your life.
6. God’s Purpose Always Leads to His Glory
Proverbs 19:21
“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”
Your purpose is not just about success—it is about kingdom impact.
When you follow God’s purpose:
Lives are touched
Souls are saved
Generations are changed
God’s name is glorified
Purpose is bigger than your job, your title, and your dreams. It is God working through you to accomplish what He ordained.
7. How to Walk in Your God-Given Purpose
a. Seek God first
“In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” (Proverbs 3:6)
b. Listen to the Holy Spirit
He guides, convicts, directs, and reveals.
c. Stay faithful in small things
David, Joseph, and Moses started small. Faithfulness unlocks promotion.
d. Embrace your process
Purpose is formed through trials, waiting, and obedience.
e. Walk by faith
Purpose requires trusting God even when the path is unclear.
Conclusion
Your purpose is not lost. It is not behind you. It is not unreachable.
It is in God—and God is with you.
God knew you before you were born. He set you apart. He ordained you.
And everything you have gone through is part of the shaping process.
Just like Jeremiah, Joseph, David, and Moses, your life is a divine assignment written by God Himself.
Step into your purpose.
Walk with God.
Fulfill the destiny He planned before time began.
